The first trailer for the new James Bond game, 007 First Light, has been released, providing details on what consoles it will be available on.
Set for release in 2026, 007 First Light will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The studio behind the game is IO Interactive, best known for their work on Hitman.
It is the franchise’s first ever origin story following James Bond’s rise to becoming a 007.
The trailer showcases Bond at the beginning of his career as an agent, who joins MI6 and meets new versions of classic characters M,Q and Moneypenny.
IO Interactive has revealed that players who sign up for an IOI account now will receive two exclusive in-game items for 007 First Light at the game’s launch, along with future additional rewards.
007 First Light will tell James Bond’s origin story
The trailer for 007 First Light reveals this incarnation of James Bond was left as an orphan aged 11 after a childhood tragedy, after which he spent the rest of his childhood in various British boarding schools.
Bond is later seen as a young recruit in the Royal Navy, who is taken on by MI6.
The actor playing James Bond is yet to be confirmed. However, Lennie James, known for playing Morgan in The Walking Dead, plays a character called John Greenway, who is described as Bond’s mentor.
A description on the 007 game website reads: “First Light introduces players to a young Bond, a talented but rebellious Royal Navy air crewman whose sharp instincts and heroism see him recruited to MI6.
“The game follows his entry into the agency’s legendary, newly re-established elite double-0 programme, marking the beginning of his journey to becoming 007.”
It adds that Bond, who is 26-years-old in the game, will ‘ travel to exotic locations, encounter formidable allies and enemies, and navigate challenges’.
Fans were excited over the reveal, with one writing on X: “I am beyond excited. A 007 game is long overdue.”
@DelwynSJ commented: “Seeing James Bond get so much love in the game is awesome! This game’s gonna be fire, hopefully the story’s as epic as everyone hopes. I’m totally in!”
@FLCarguy added: “Giving me Alpha Protocol vibes – looking good!’
While @Blakezwrld10 replied to the trailer: “Hopefully it’s a series of games that come out. Should be a banger.”
James Bond game to feature during IOI showcase
There could be more details of the new 007 First Light later this week during the IOI showcase, which will be streamed on YouTube, Twitch and TikTok.
It will take place on Saturday, June 7th at 2am BST – so British fans will have to stay up late if they want to watch the reveal live.
It comes after the name of the new James Bond game was confirmed earlier this week.
The 007 First Light project was first teased in November 2020, during an IO Interactive livestream to announce Hitman 3.
The livestream concluded with the reveal of ‘Project 007’ – the first James Bond game since 007 Legends in 2012.
In October, IO Interactive boss Hakan Abrak said it’s hoped the next Bond title will be the start of a trilogy.
