Shatterline publisher Faraway is revealed to be at the root of ongoing disputes surrounding campaign payments.
In a passionate online post, streamer Sara ‘BadassMommy’ Riley-Nagashima alleged that competitive platform and UK media company GG Versus was refusing to pay her for a campaign.
However, Esports News UK has reached out to GG Versus and uncovered a more complex source of this emerging conflict. Third party in the dispute and Shatterline publisher, Faraway, appears to be at the centre of the campaign’s financial distress.
Launching payment allegations into the public sphere
Issuing a stark warning to fellow streamers and content creators, BadassMommy posted on X that individuals should not accept work with the UK-based company GG Versus.
She stated that missed payment deadlines were her reason for this warning.
Her four-day sponsored Shatterline stream in December 2024 was part of a larger promotional campaign administratively run by Versus. She alleges that she has not yet been compensated per their agreement.
Badmommy also stated in her post that she had been blocked by the company on X in the aftermath. She did not clarify which alternative direct communication channels were left accessible.
Although not mentioned in her most recent posts on the matter, she has previously tried to contact Faraway publicly.
Uncovering a more complex story in campaign funding
After Esports News UK reached out to Versus, a more complex narrative emerged surrounding the Shatterline campaign itself.
Although Versus was responsible for the practical campaign activation, they are not funding the campaign themselves. Instead, game publisher Faraway is responsible for financially backing the promotion.
GG Versus has issued an exclusive statement to Esports News UK.
“We are currently in a legal dispute with the publisher responsible for funding the Shatterline campaign. We understand the impact this has had and are doing everything we can to resolve the dispute and meet our outstanding obligations. We’ve been transparent and apologetic with those affected, and we remain committed to resolving this properly.”
Founder of GG Versus, 04/06/2025
The company further clarified that they have maintained direct communication channels with the affected creator outside of X.
How does Faraway impact the non-payment dispute?
Funding disputes with larger companies, which can disrupt contractual payments, are not uncommon in the esports industry. Ongoing industry instability has even earned itself a name, “The Esports Winter.”
In the Shatterline campaign controversy, Versus is embroiled in a separate legal dispute with the campaign’s funding source. They aim to retrieve the money due to be paid to their content creators from its intended source.
To date, most individuals involved in the overarching Shatterline campaign have been compensated in accordance with their contracts. However, some individuals completed the work in line with the campaign funding withdrawal.
According to Versus, BadassMommy falls into this category.
Where does this leave GG Versus and BadassMommy?
Based on the context provided to Esports News UK, both parties involved in the face-value Shatterline campaign dispute are missing funds.
The source of these missing funds appears to lie with the original publisher, Faraway, which provided the campaign funding.
Until GG Versus can conclude its dispute over the campaign funding, it is unclear when they will be able to pass the missing money from the original funding party to the streamer.
Regardless, they have expressed their commitment to resolution and the consequential meeting of contractual obligations.
