IO Interactive has announced the official title of its upcoming James Bond game: 007 First Light.
The name reveal, confirmed on social media, comes almost five years after the Hitman developer first teased ‘Project 007’.
007 First Light is expected to explore Bond’s origin story and his journey to earning the 007 designation. IO’s announcement tweet used the hashtag #EarnTheNumber, suggesting the game will be a story about Bond becoming a 00 agent.

There will be a full reveal of 007 First Light later this week, with fans eagerly awaiting more details about the new game.
The reveal will come during the IOI showcase, which will be streamed live on YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok.
It will take place on Saturday, June 7th at 2am BST – so British fans will have to stay up late if they want to watch the reveal live.
Alongside 007 First Light, the IOI showcase will feature updates on Hitman: World of Assassination, and Mindseye.
Fans on social media platform X were excited about the news of 007 First Light.
One person tweeted: “I love the Hitman series but I especially love James Bond – really hoping these games do some real true narrative and authentic storytelling behind the character.”
Another fan commented: “Very curious about the title. Definitely looking forward to the reveal. Need those details.”
Other followers were glad there was ‘finally’ some news about the game, with one stating that it would be a ‘day one purchase’.
James Bond 007 First Light project
The 007 First Light project was first teased in November 2020, during an IO Interactive livestream to announce Hitman 3.
The livestream concluded with the reveal of ‘Project 007’ – the first James Bond game since 007 Legends in 2012.
In October, IO Interactive boss Hakan Abrak said it’s hoped the next Bond title will be the start of a trilogy.
He told IGN: “It’s completely beginning and becoming a story, hopefully for a big trilogy out there in the future. And equally important and exciting, it’s a new Bond.

“It’s a Bond we built from the ground up for gamers. It’s extremely exciting with all the tradition and all the history there is to work on this together with the family [and create] a Bond that the gamers can call their own and grow with.”
Abrak added: “It’s been, what, almost 15 years since the last game. So it’s been a long time. It definitely is something that is not overexposed in gaming.
“There’s a lot of people out there who think about GoldenEye as the classic. I don’t want to speak too big about it, but I just hope we’ll do a thing that will define James Bond in gaming for years to come.”
Meanwhile, back in April, the new James Bond game was additionally confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2. However, no release date was confirmed along with the announcement.
