The national body British Esports has expanded its advisory board with the addition of Lewis Kay to its ranks.
Lewis Kay Joins British Esports Advisory Board
Kay is the co-founder and managing director of Esports Youth Club and has significant experience in youth engagement and grassroots sports.
He has assisted in hosting esports-themed events and gaming sessions for young people around South London. The Esports Youth Club has reached thousands of young people.
The club runs free daily gaming sessions with hot meals and snacks, with hubs in West Norwood, Lewisham, Lambeth and Southwark.
“Lewis brings a wealth of experience in youth development and industry insight,” British Esports explained in a LinkedIn post.
“His understanding of youth engagement and the broader interactive entertainment landscape will be invaluable as we continue our mission to promote, improve and inspire the next generation of esports talent.”
Kay in his own post on the platform said: “I have always felt a personal attachment to playing video games, as for many – it is more than a hobby.
“It feels so great to have now joined the British Esports advisory board, taking another step in the direction towards ensuring that grassroots esports is accessible across the UK for our future generations.”
The British Esports advisory board has a number of veterans of the UK esports scene. This includes esports veteran and former Team Dignitas owner Michael ‘ODEE’ O’Dell, and former Olympic swimmer, Aice Dearing.
In total, there are 15 advisory board members listed on the British Esports website.
Prince William visits Esports Youth Club
Lewis Kay’s addition to the advisory board of British Esports comes after his positive work at Esports Youth Club drew in Prince William last month.
Prince William paid visit to the Esports Youth Club in Southwark, where he spoke to community centre leaders before finding himself playing on a Nintendo Switch console.
The future king sat with youngsters at the club as he played on Mario Kart and EA FC.
The site at Mentivity House posted on X: “Unbelievable scenes down at the awesome Mentivity House yesterday with an exciting visit from Prince William – would never have thought we’d be hosting them on our gaming setup but here we are!
“It was so inspiring to receive a visit from such a prestigious public figure, a memory sure to live long in the lives of the young people we help to support weekly alongside Mentivity.”
