Call of Duty: Mobile has revealed that the use of wildcards has been restricted ahead of the 2025 World Championship.
The change to the ruleset was added to Call of Duty: Mobile’s esports setting page on May 19th.
A statement within the title’s rule changelogs said: “Wildcards are currently under review for the 2025 World Championships.
“Depending on their development throughout the year, their restriction status may or may not be updated in the future.”
The news comes at a time when players are looking to qualify for the World Championships, with qualifiers beginning last month.
What are Call of Duty: Mobile wildcards?
Call of Duty: Mobile introduced wildcards as part of the title’s Season 3: Cyber Mirage update in March.
It allowed players to unlock four Wildcards by purchasing them using points earned during Ranked matches.
Customisation options included an increased capacity of lethal and tactical equipment, the ability to carry two primary weapons and the ability to equip two perks from the red category.
2025 World Championship roadmap
Qualifiers for the Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship 2025 got underway on April 25, 2025.
The tournament itself will offer a $1m (£749,000) prize pool. It also introduced a dual division structure: Legendary and Open.
Legendary is for Legendary and Grandmaster players, while Open, is for all other ranks. This move was made to attempt to broaden participation in the World Championship.
Players could register through an in-game World Championship 2025 button. Points are earned via ranked multiplayer matches and higher ranks yield more points per win, with 50 points required to progress.
In the first stage, players will have to earn enough ranked points to advance to the second stage, where players will compete as ranked teams on June 4th.
The following stage, sees 64 teams from each region compete for a spot in the top 16 of the stage three finals. The top eight from each region will then take part in stage four on July 26th.
At that point, teams are split in two groups, featuring best-of-five matches. The top two from each region will then compete in the stage four finals.
