British-based social media account The Pit, which is dedicated to European Call of Duty esports, has launched a fundraising campaign for an all-French team competing in Call of Duty Challengers.
The French outfit, comprising players Melko, Mighty, Nadox and Syqz, are due to compete at the Dallas Open, as part of DreamHack Dallas, from May 23rd to 25th.
However, they faced a setback when a deal with an unnamed brand collapsed, leaving them short of funds for the event.
The Pit’s fundraising page aims to raise €2,200 (£1,854) to cover event costs, such as team passes and travel expenses, for the French team to participate in the Dallas Open, which runs alongside the Call of Duty League (CDL) Major IV.
UK-based esports organisation Mission Magpies has stepped in to cover accommodation costs for the team, helping to ease some of the financial burden.
The Pit has also invited brands to collaborate with Mission Magpies to directly cover costs.
The all-French roster has consistently placed in the top six in online cups and elite tournaments. They achieved a top-16 finish at the first Dallas Open and a top-24 finish at the Miami Open, establishing them as a competitive team in Europe’s Challengers scene.
Response to criticism over Call of Duty Challengers fundraiser
Despite the goodwill behind the fundraiser to help the all-French outfit to compete in the Call of Duty Challengers, some fans expressed criticism on the fundraiser for the team to go to Dallas.
The Pit clarified on X that the initiative was their own and not the team’s idea.
The account which was created by content creator TN Copyrighted responded to one critic: “(It) was our idea not theirs.
“Just trying to assist with a small platform we’ve created. They had the event sorted and were left short-handed with a week’s notice, they’re not jobless and begging for a handout.”
Mission Magpies also responded on X, defending the initiative as a way to “help out a good team”.
They wrote: “Just want to say I think it’s disgusting the way people are reacting to @CCopy_ simply trying to help out a good team.
“None of us asked him to do this and it was never the intention to take money off others. Copy did this off his own back to try and help out the EU Challengers scene like he always does.
“Nothing but a legend in my eyes for trying to support a team that has been screwed over last minute before the event. I think people in this space need to learn some respect and maybe we’d get more recognition from the NA (North American) scene and beyond. Have a good day.”
