Gen.G have fully committed to Marvel Rivals esports in a big way by combining the rosters of the top two teams in Asia to form what some would call a ‘super team’.
A lot of esports organisations will be looking at the game’s competitive scene after the announcement of the Marvel Rivals Ignite tournament with a prize pool of over $3m (£2.3m).
The organisation had previously dipped its toes in the water by fielding a roster under the banner of “Gen.G Academy” in Season 1 of the Marvel Rivals Championship (MRC) in Asia.
That talented team came second at the tournament to a group of high-ranked players, including some former Overwatch League pros, who competed together under the name of Uprise.
Now, Gen.G has raided that group of Uprise players by signing Choi ‘Brownie’ Mingi (formerly Asdfd), Sin ‘CHOPPA’ Jae-hyeon, and Jung ‘FUNFUN’ SeungHyun.
They will join five former Gen.G Academy players, Bae ‘KAIDIA’ Jung-hyun, Dotori, SNAKE, Xoon, and Xzi.

KAIDIA has experience playing with his three new teammates as together they won the Marvel Rivals Invitational (MRI) 2025: Asia under the name of U4RIA NLE.
Having players who won both the MRC and MRI could prove vital for Gen.G, as the top teams from those two tournaments will be invited directly into Marvel Rivals Ignite.
However, some may be surprised that they didn’t pick up any of the former Uprise/U4RIA NLE players who had Overwatch League experience.
Lee ‘Happy’ Jeong-woo and Park ‘Neko’ Se-hyeon both competed in the prestigious competition but are currently still looking for teams.
Happy was a staple in the Overwatch League, competing for Guangzhou Charge, Houston Outlaws, Washington Justice, and LA Gladiators. He also won the Overwatch Champions Series World Finals with Team Falcons last year.
Neko, on the other hand, played for both Boston Uprising and Toronto Defiant then later also coached both Hangzhou Spark and Houston Outlaws.
In fact, Neko was Happy’s coach when Houston Outlaws came runners-up in the Overwatch League 2023 Playoffs.
However, Gen.G’s line up does have some Overwatch experience as both KAIDIA and Choppa (formerly Alpha) competed in the Overwatch Contenders Series in Korea for Top Honor and Element Mystic, respectively.
This new super team formed by Gen.G will have big expectations should they be invited or qualify for Marvel Rivals Ignite Stage 1 next month.

In my seven years of esports writing, I’ve introuduced esports coverage to newspapers, interviewed some of the biggest names in the industry, and driven viewers mad with the puns in my YouTube scripts. I’m most proud of the latter.
