Overwatch 2 Director teases “bonkers” changes even bigger than Stadium are coming to the game

Major gameplay changes are coming to Overwatch 2

The Overwatch 2 development team has made very bold decisions in recent times with the return of 6v6 modes, the addition of Perks, and the exciting introduction of the Stadium game mode just a few examples. However, this is seemingly only the start as there’s a lot more to come.

Overwatch 2 Game Director Aaron Keller has claimed that 2026 will be “bonkers” for the game in an interview hosted by Twitch streamer Jeff “Emongg” Anderson. While Keller didn’t reveal what these updates will be, he explained that the development team has changed its philosophy quite drastically:

“I think we’ve really taken to heart some of the feedback from our players and we would like to be doing bigger, more monumental things in the game and just not be as conservative or as careful as we were in the past.”

It’s certainly clear to see with changes like the introduction of bans into the game. While controversial, with a few players upset they can’t always play their mains, it was likely a healthy change for the game as a whole and delighted a lot of the playerbase. And of course, that was small in scale compared to Stadium, which is an all-new way to play the game. Players compete to earn money, which can then be used to buy powerful, game-changing upgrades. Yet, Keller states that Blizzard wants to go even bigger:

“With things like Stadium and Perks, these are big things for the game, but that’s not the end of our ambition or the end of the types of things that we want to do. And I think there’s going to be a lot to look forward to, not just with what’s coming this season or what’s coming to Stadium, but what’s coming in the next few seasons to Overwatch… Next year is going to be bonkers.”

It just so happens that 2026 will coincide with the franchise’s 10th anniversary, which seems like the perfect time to drop a major update. We’ll have to wait and see what’s coming next, but the future is seemingly bright for the hero shooter.
