The Nintendo Switch 2 is being released during the summer of 2025 and here we have a guide on when it will be released, how much it will cost and how you can buy it in the United Kingdom.
Following years of speculation, Nintendo confirmed there would be a second Switch console back in January.
Then in April, more than a million people watched a stream from Nintendo which provided further details of the hardware.
It confirmed it would be accompanied by Mario Kart World, a new edition of Nintendo’s most iconic game. While a host of other titles including Elden Ring and Street Fighter 6 were confirmed.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa described the new console as “a leap forward”, following the original switch which was released in March 2017.
Nintendo Switch 2 UK release date
The Nintendo Switch 2 will officially launch in the UK on June 5, 2025, as confirmed during the Nintendo Direct presentation.
This global release date aligns with markets like the US and Canada, ensuring UK fans can dive into the new console simultaneously
Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser explained the summer release in an interview with NPR.
“It’s the start of summer season, and obviously, with a Nintendo Switch 2, you have a device that can both play at home docked like a gaming console, or you can take it out of the dock and take it on the go,” he explained.
“It’s a perfect game [console] for summer travel,” he added.
Nintendo Switch 2: How much will it cost?
The Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at £395.99 for the standalone console in the UK, a leap from the original Switch’s launch price which was £279.99.
A bundle including a digital copy of Mario Kart World is available for £429.99. This offers savings compared to buying the game separately which retails at £74.99 for the physical version or £66.99 digitally.
The switch will come with the Joy-Con 2 controllers, Nintendo Switch 2 dock, Joy-Con grip, HDMI cable, USB-C charging cable and AC adapter.

How to buy the Nintendo Switch 2 in the UK
For those wondering how to buy the Nintendo Switch 2 in the UK, pre-orders began on April 8, 2025. However, stock has been scarce, with major retailers like Amazon, Argos, Very, and GAME selling out within minutes.
