ALGS Open 2025

Four prominent UK esports organisations are gearing up to compete at the 2025 ALGS (Apex Legends Global Series) Open.

Annex, Forbidden Gaming, Team Nemesis and Exo Clan are among an unprecedented 160 teams taking part.

Other UK-based teams are also taking part, highlighting the UK’s growing influence in the esports scene.

With Team Nemesis riding high after a Pro League victory, the UK contingent is poised to put up a strong challenge.

ALGS Open 2025: When is it and where does it take place?

The ALGS Open, part of the ALGS Year 5 championship, is an offline tournament scheduled from May 1 to May 4, 2025. It will take place at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

As one of the largest Battle Royal esports events, it will feature 160 teams competing for $1m (£747,000 prize pool) and Championship qualification events.

The 160 teams include all 120 ALGS Pro League teams (30 per region: Americas, EMEA, APAC North, and APAC South). Plus, there are 40 teams from Preseason Qualifiers (16 from Americas, 8 each from EMEA, APAC North, and APAC South).

Serving as the first LAN of the ALGS 2025 season, following the Preseason Qualifiers and Split 1 Pro League, it is a critical step toward qualifying for the Midseason Playoffs and the ALGS Championship.

The tournament will be played on four maps – World’s Edge, Storm Point, E-District and Broken Moon.

The format for the tournament is as follows:

  • Bracket Stage: Teams are divided into groups for initial matches, competing in a double-elimination bracket. This means teams must lose twice to be eliminated, providing a safety net for early missteps. Matches consist of six games per round.  Points are awarded for placement (12 for 1st to 0 for 20th) and kills (1 point per kill). The top teams advance to the Winners Bracket, while others drop to the Losers Bracket for a second chance.
  • Finals: The top 20 teams from the Bracket Stage advance to the Match Point Finals, where a team must reach 50 points and then win a game to be crowned champion.

UK teams taking part at ALGS Open

Several notable UK esports organizations will compete at the ALGS Open. These include:

Annex: A rising esports organization known for nurturing young talent and disciplined play. They will aim to leverage their regional tournament experience to navigate the double-elimination bracket.

Forbidden Gaming: Having shown promise in online qualifiers, Forbidden Gaming will bring high-skill individual performances to the ALGS Open LAN, aiming for a top-40 finish.

Team Nemesis: A standout after clinching a Pro League win on April 20, 2025, led by in-game leader Zuni. Nemesis excelled on Broken Moon, reaching the final four in all three games of their Pro League matchup. This will position them as a strong contender.

Exo Clan: With experience in prior ALGS events, Exo Clan’s veteran roster hopes to secure a share of the $1,000,000 purse through clutch performances and strategic rotations.

As per Liquidpedia, other UK teams taking part include Pengu Power, Pioneers and Ronin.
