Lambeth Town Hall is hosting a Rocket League tournament titled ‘The Mayor of Lambeth Presents: Battle of the Boroughs’, in partnership with the College of Esports.
This first-of-its-kind Rocket League tournament will take place this Saturday (19 April 2025), with the aim of ‘raising funds for charity, spotlighting the esports industry, and strengthening connections between local leadership and the College of Esports’.
Up to 16 teams made up of students from London’s boroughs will participate in online qualifiers. The top four teams will advance to a live final at Lambeth Town Hall, competing in a double elimination bracket for a share of the £1,000 prize pool.

As part of the event’s charitable mission, £500 will be donated to both Young People Matter and Brixton Street Gym, two causes championed by the Mayor of Lambeth.
200 early bird free tickets are available for community members to attend and support the competitors and local charities.
Behind the scenes, students from the London-based university-level College of Esports have worked in collaboration with the Mayor’s office to build this event from the ground up. They have developed the tournament structure, coordinated the technical setup at the venue, and secured sponsorships. The event also provides these students with hands-on work experience, culminating in paid roles on event day.
Steven Woodward, Head of Legion Esports at the College of Esports, said:
“London is primed for an ongoing, large-scale esports event. We’re proud to bring together competitive spirit and community pride through Battle of the Boroughs — an event that marks just the beginning of something much bigger.”

The hope is that Battle of the Boroughs will become an annual fixture in London, with aspirations for support from the Mayor of London in future editions.
Lambeth is known as “the borough with social and climate justice at its heart.” Its current Mayor, Cllr. John-Paul Ennis, is the youngest in the borough’s history at age 27. He is committed to uplifting local youth through charities such as Brixton Street Gym, which promotes health and confidence, and Young People Matter, an organisation that helps young people make positive life choices.
Lambeth is focused on reducing crime, supporting communities, and creating a future where residents can live healthier, happier lives, according to a press release.
The College of Esports is a university-level institution dedicated to the business of esports and gaming, located at the Lee Valley VeloPark in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
