Call of Duty is set to assess the suitability of two multiplayer maps ahead of the Call of Duty League (CDL) 2025 Major 3 tournament.
Starting April 9, the Barrage and Grind maps will be introduced to the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 ranked play mode.
This is a trial to determine whether they are added to the existing map pool in the CDL.
The game’s developer, Treyarch, revealed the news in a post on their X account. It detailed that Barrage will be tested in Hardpoint and Control modes, while Grind will exclusively appear in Hardpoint.
They wrote: “Your feedback and data during this Map Evaluation will be crucial in helping our teams and @CODLeague decide if these maps are added to the official map pools for Major III or beyond.”
Once evaluated, the maps will then be removed from ranked play. This is until a decision is made over whether they will feature in CDL Major 3.
Qualifiers for CDL Major 3 have already begun with teams battling for points to secure their spots at the LAN event. It will take place in Boca Raton, California between April 24 and 27.
The second week of qualifiers gets underway on Friday with a full schedule on the CDL’s official website.
This is the second map evaluation for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 season. Previously, the Bounty and Dealership maps arrived as part of the Season 2 update.
This led to the Dealership map being added alongside Hacienda, Protocol, Red Card and Rewind.
History of Barrage and Grind ahead of CDL 2025 Major 3 decision
Grind was a map that was originally included in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. The map was released in the Revolution content pack.
It was also added for free in the Days of Summer update for Black Ops 4 and will now make its return in Black Ops 6 as of April 9.
Barrage was featured in Black Ops 6 as part of the season three update.
Now, it will arrive in the Hardpoint and Control map pools for evaluation for CDL Major 3.
