Manchester City have been crowned 2024-25 ePremier League winners, becoming the first club to win back-to-back ePrem titles in the process.
They beat Brighton & Hove Albion 6-5 on aggregate in the final yesterday to take the football esports FC title for clubs in the English Premier League.
City players Donovan ‘Tekkz’ Hunt (UK) and Matias Bonanno (Argentina) secured the back-to-back title after Man City won the 2023/24 ePremier League last year. Bonanno won 4-1 on PS5 after Tekkz’ 2-4 loss on Xbox.
The winning duo picked up the £30,000 first prize (£15,000 per player), with the runners-up each winning £7,500.
Tekkz has now won three ePremier League titles, after he won the inaugural ePremier League competition with Liverpool back in 2019.
And City’s win means their players have qualified for the eChampions League and FC Pro Open World Championships.
For Brighton, it was heartbreak again after they also lost the final to City last year.
Tekkz said on the Man City website: “They’ve been really good. I really feel for them this time, losing two in a row. Brighton were extremely tough opponents in the final and Mati and I had to really dig deep to come out on top.
“It almost doesn’t feel real what we’ve achieved but I think the amount of hard work Mati and I have put into preparing for this moment is reflected in the result. We had our minds set on making more history this year and we’ve done it!
“We will enjoy this moment but then it’s also straight on to preparing for the eChampions League and the World Championships.”
Matias Bonanno added: “To become the first team to win the title back-to-back is a special achievement for me and I also can’t wait to face the challenge of continuing our form in the eChampions League and the World Championships.
“I think Tekkz and I are one of the best duos in the world right now and we definitely proved that in what has been the most difficult ePremier League series we have ever played in.
“We want to thank all the Manchester City fans for supporting us and helping us fight for another historic ePremier League trophy, they really helped us get to this moment.”
The 2024/25 ePremier League finals also featured in-game player upgrades based on results.
