The British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) will be covering the UK Armed Forces Rocket League Finals next week.
This will take place on December 9th and 10th 2024 at British Esports’ National Esports Performance Campus (NEPC) in Sunderland.
According to a press release, ‘BFBS will provide comprehensive coverage of this exciting esports event across BFBS Forces News, BFBS Radio, and BFBS social media channels, ensuring that fans don’t miss a moment of the action’.
The competition will be streamed live on the Navy, Army, and RAF Twitch channels. BFBS will also provide exclusive updates and behind-the-scenes content throughout the event.
The news comes after the UK Government’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) recognised esports as an official military sport earlier this year. The Armed Forces has increasingly focused on gaming in recent years, due to it strengthening bonds between personnel and promoting digital skills. However, this has also generated criticism at times, with some accusing the British Army’s scrapped Fortnite Operation Belong campaign of aiming to recruit gamers, for example.
Ben Chapman, CEO of the BFBS, said: “BFBS is thrilled to support the UK Armed Forces Rocket League Finals, an event that highlights the incredible talent and dedication of our service members.
“We’re proud to bring this exciting competition to the armed forces community and champion their achievements. Through our coverage across multiple platforms, we aim to connect service personnel with the action and entertain them, ensuring no one misses a moment of this fantastic event.”
“The UK Armed Forces Rocket League Finals is not just about the competition, it’s about bringing our people together, showcasing teamwork, and celebrating the skills of our service members in a modern and exciting way.”

Flt Lt Stephen Rennie, UKAF Esports Lead, added: “Esports has become a major part of military life, and we’re excited to see our teams compete at the highest level.
“The UK Armed Forces Rocket League Finals is not just about the competition, it’s about bringing our people together, showcasing teamwork, and celebrating the skills of our service members in a modern and exciting way.”
