Update (October 9th 2024): The second 2024 Esports Awards ceremony, previously due to take place in London on November 14th, will now take place in Los Angeles on November 21st instead.
Esports News UK understands the change was made to better align with sponsors.
Organisers sent out an updated scheduled today, for the Esports Awards, Mobies and accompanying events:
- 19th November – The Mobies, the Mobile Gaming Awards ceremony
- 20th November – PWR UP
- 21st November – Esports Awards ceremony
- 22nd November – The Esports Awards Open
“The changes have been made to ensure that the ceremony is as accessible as possible to all guests and finalists, and will allow the Esports Awards to provide an enhanced experience, separate from other events in the esports calendar,” organisers said in a press release.
“Alongside this, the Esports Awards are proud to announce the return of the PWR UP, a unique networking experience that provides a platform for individuals in the gaming industry to demonstrate their abilities and share their expertise with others.
“The Esports Awards Open will also be making a return. The day will serve to foster connections between those with a shared interest in gaming and golf, while also providing an occasion to delight those in attendance and offer a valuable platform for industry professionals.”
Original article (September 24th 2024):
The 2024 Esports Awards London event finalists have been announced today, with categories including Esports Team of the Year, Esports Host of the Year and more.
The ceremony will be in-person with an invited audience and broadcast online.
This will be the second awards ceremony broadcast this year, following the first in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during the Esports World Cup. You can see the Esports Awards 2024 winners from Riyadh here.
The London ceremony will take place on November 21st 2024 and will focus on the esports side of gaming, such as PC Player of the Year, Console Player of the Year, Organisation of the Year and more. It also will be hosted across Twitch, X and all major streaming platforms.
UK talent finalists include Pansy, Machine, Medic, Onset and Brandon Smith (for Esports Play by Play Caster of the Year), Dan Gaskin (for Esports Colour Caster of the Year, who won an award in 2023), James Banks, Yinsu and Praagy (for Esports Host of the Year), Caedrel and TacticalRab (for Esports Content Creator of the Year).
The Esports Journalist of the Year category is not included below and was not mentioned in the finalists press release, however its announcement has been delayed, organisers first told The Esports Advocate and later told Esports News UK.
“We are truly excited for the second broadcast of the year, which marks a new chapter in our mission to celebrate the best and brightest in esports on a truly global stage. The calibre of talent and passion within this ceremony’s finalists is truly exceptional, and we are honoured to recognise the individuals, teams, and organisations that are shaping the future of the industry.”
Mike Ashford, Esports Awards
We initially incorrectly reported that Journalist of the Year had been removed from this year’s awards, as it was not listed in the categories below, was not addressed in the press release and organisers did not initially get back to us. We apologise for this mistake.
Esports Awards President Mike Ashford told The Esports Advocate: “Our intention is to offer the Journalist of the Year award recognising and celebrating Journalists after consultation with previous nominees, winners, and other key stakeholders within the industry. This has delayed the announcement. We are expecting an announcement on location next week and exploring opportunities that have been presented to us to present the show in the best way and format possible.”
Update: Journalist of the Year was actually dropped, in the end.
In previous years, the Esports Awards says it has attracted a viewership of over 20m.
“We are truly excited for the second broadcast of the year, which marks a new chapter in our mission to celebrate the best and brightest in esports on a truly global stage,” commented Mike Ashford, CEO of the Esports Awards, “The calibre of talent and passion within this ceremony’s finalists is truly exceptional, and we are honoured to recognise the individuals, teams, and organisations that are shaping the future of the industry.”
The Esports Awards is in partnership with Oakley, Qiddiya and the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF).

Esports Journalist of the Year
Announcement expected to follow in late September/early October

Dom is an award-winning writer and finalist of the Esports Journalist of the Year 2023 award. He graduated from Bournemouth University with a 2:1 degree in Multi-Media Journalism in 2007.
As a long-time gamer having first picked up the NES controller in the late ’80s, he has written for a range of publications including GamesTM, Nintendo Official Magazine, industry publication MCV and others. He worked as head of content for the British Esports Federation up until February 2021, when he stepped back to work full-time on Esports News UK and offer esports consultancy and freelance services. Note: Dom still produces the British Esports newsletter on a freelance basis, so our coverage of British Esports is always kept simple – usually just covering the occasional press release – because of this conflict of interest.
