Team Regen took over The Athena in Leicester for the first Smash Ultimate Major in the UK since Albion 4 in 2019 – Regen 2024, announced earlier this year.
Over 700 players from all over the world attended the event from August 23rd to 25th 2024, with tournaments for multiple Smash titles from Melee, Brawl, 4 and Ultimate as well as side events for Mario Kart 8, Pokémon VGC and the soon to be released Rivals 2. Wade White rounds up the results below.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate at Regen 2024
The main event for Regen 2024 saw 571 entrants from across 26 different countries competing in the Smash Ultimate Singles bracket. With top talent from all over the globe, the UK barely missed out on the Top 8 spot, with the top two UK players of the event, Luugi and Shaneak, finishing in a joint 9th place.
French Wario player Glutonny won the Singles bracket, only dropping five games out of the total 35 he played during the event, beating fellow French player and currently Ranked Europe #1 player crêpe salée and number 1 seed of the tournament, Mexican player MKLeo. In a strange coincidence, Glutonny had also won the previous UK Major Albion 4 over American top player Dabuz in 2019 at The Emirates Stadium.
There were three side events for Smash Ultimate, with the Ultimate Doubles bracket won by the Mexican duo of MKLeo and MKBigBoss, where they beat the Spanish/German team of Sisqui and Tarik and a Squad Strike bracket won by Finnish player Lancelot over Tarik.
The final side event for Smash Ultimate saw an International Crew Battle won by the German team of Youssef, drybie, aegi, Fani and NiPin, with France finishing in 2nd, and Sweden in 3rd.
Super Smash Bros Melee, Brawl and 4
Three other Smash titles had tournaments over the Regen weekend, with the Melee bracket reaching 64 entrants and being won by Reason Gaming’s Frenzy, dropping 0 games across the 13 sets he played, over Stranger.
The Brawl bracket reached 32 entrants with UK player G-P winning over German player Ophis, with the Smash 4 bracket being won by OwlBBs after fellow UK player, Peli, reset the bracket in Grand Finals.

Rivals 2, Pokémon and Mario Kart
Regen 2024 also hosted a Rivals 2 bracket during its beta weekend, boasting an entrant count of 66 players. Dutch player Mr. R won the tournament after UK player Spider reset the bracket, finishing in second.
Whilst not the first Rivals 2 event, it did mark the biggest offline Rivals 2 in the UK so far.

The Pokémon VGC tournament at Regen ran using the Regulation G ruleset. From 32 entrants, the tournament was won by Irish player Hammer.
The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournament saw 59 entrants battling it out through 5 rounds of 150cc Grand Prixs, with UK player Fruitman coming out on top.
All of Regen 2024 was streamed across two English channels and one French channel, reaching over 9,800 viewers across the 3 channels with a total of over 50,000 hours watched across the entire weekend.
