Gayming Awards 2024

Northern Irish esports player, content creator and community manager Emma ‘Emzii’ Rose has been awarded ‘Best LGBTQ+ Contribution to Esports’ at the Gayming Awards 2024.

She joins other award winners including Baldur’s Gate 3 dev Larian Studios, which won the top two awards of Game of the Year and Readers’ Award, with the Best LGBTQ Character Award going to Shadowheart.

Thirsty Suitors took the Best LGBTQ Indie Game Award and the Authentic Representation Award.

The winners of this year’s Gayming Awards were revealed on a livestream hosted by DEERE and MiladyConfetti as part of IGN’s Summer of Gaming and across Gayming Magazine’s Twitch and TikTok channels. Plus, a Spanish language co-stream by Mexican TikTok icon, Angelo Gamer.

In total, there were nine categories honoring a selection of video games, TV shows, organisations, esports names and content creators that have championed diversity and inclusivity globally in 2023/24.

Additionally, Jeremy Crawford picked up the Gayming Icon Award in recognition of their contribution to the LGBTQ community within tabletop gaming for his work on Dungeons & Dragons. Plus, Gayming Magazine also inducted five more streamers into its Rising Star Class. The streamers were chosen by the Gayming Ambassadors to join this class because they have all “made incredible strides in their streaming career over the last year and have made significant contributions to the LGBTQ+ world within the gaming space.”

Emzii commented: “Wadafaaaaaaa.”

The news comes after Emzii won the 2023 ESI Film Festival, for a documentary following her life as a Commonwealth Esports Championships gold medal winner, showing her experience of being a transgender woman in the gaming and esports space, and some of the challenges she faces.

“2023 and the start of 2024 was an incredibly tough year for the games industry, and we have certainly felt the knock-on effect of that,” said Robin Gray, Founder of Gayming Magazine and the Gayming Awards.

“I am delighted we were able to finally celebrate the achievements of the LGBTQ gaming community. Each year I’m thrilled at what new stories of success we unearth. The Gayming Awards are on a journey of evolution, and I’m honoured that we’re able to celebrate the best our community has to offer.

“We’re a small company that has been greatly affected by the global economy and this has caused some issues within our community. I’m determined to continue our growth and our journey, making good on our outstanding issues. Gayming is a platform for all, and we will always keep fighting for inclusivity and representation.”
