In this special series of articles, Esports News UK’s coverage of the Blast Spring Final 2024 is in collaboration with the betting partner GGBET UK
New data from banking platform Revolut has revealed that Brits are spending more on gaming, and the Blast Premier Spring Final viewership figures are up.
Revolut customers spent £6m on video games in May, up 100% year-on-year
Revolut, the global fintech with over 8m UK customers and 40m globally, has revealed Brits are spending more on gaming than ever before.
Over £6m was spent on games in May 2024, up from £3m spent in the same month last year.
Revolut’s consumer spending analysis recorded tens of millions of card payments, revealing the spending trends by the UK’s Revolut account holders.
The news comes as Revolut was the presenting/banking partner for the Blast Premier Spring Final in Wembley last week.
With the UK suffering its wettest spring since 1986, Revolut customers turned to gaming for inside entertainment, with spending 39% higher than digital media, books, movies and music combined in May, which reached £4.9m. The average purchase also increased by 32% year-on-year from £34 in 2023 to £45 in May this year.
The growth in popularity of gaming by Revolut users is a growing trend in 2024. The first three months of the year saw gaming spend grow by 44% year-on-year compared to 2023.
Deborah Wajsbrot, Head of Growth – Strategic Partnerships & Sponsorships at Revolut, said: “The gaming industry is at the forefront of innovation and this significant jump in spending in May compared to last year is testament to the global community it has created.
“Whether our customers are saving up for the next big gaming title, travelling to an esports competition, or even supporting their favourite gaming content creators, Revolut brings the gaming experience to the next level with a wealth of features making it easier for customers to spend and save securely.”
Blast Premier fans who sign up to Revolut can also get £20 cashback until June 30th.
Blast Premier Spring Final 2024 viewership rises year-on-year
Esports Charts has revealed the Blast Premier Spring Final 2024 viewership figures.
It had 640,100 peak viewers and 252,604 average viewers. These are up from 494,135 peak viewers from the 2023 Spring Final, and 193,727 average viewers respectively.
Hours watched reached 10.2m for 2024, up from 9.15m in 2023.
So while the London event was the most popular Blast Premier Spring Final event since June 2022, it was not as popular as the events in 2020 and 2021. This could also be due to the pandemic at that time, and more people being stuck at home watching content.
