Former Guild, Excel, Fnatic and Man City esports performance coach Edgar Chekera has joined Indian esports organisation Global Esports as sports psychologist.
Not to be confused with the separate Global Esports Federation, the esports team org currently compete in the VCT Pacific League, a top-tier Valorant league also featuring teams like Gen.G, T1 and Paper Rex.
Edgar Chekera is an experienced mental performance coach in UK esports, having worked for Fnatic, Excel Esports (now known as GiantX) and Man City esports/City Football Group.
Most recently, he was working for Guild Esports. Edgar joined as their first performance manager back in late 2021 and left the London-based organisation a year ago.
He also runs Psych-Chek, a performance agency offering consultancy, workshops, profiling and resources.
Edgar said he was ‘excited and happy to be back in VCT and has a bunch of great people to work with’.
Global Esports has other UK talent including player Russ, assistant coach BigTime and head coach Spin.
Their VCT Pacific Valorant player roster consists of Lightningfast (India), Benkai (Poland), Russ (UK), blaZek1ng (Poland), polvi (Finland) and sub skillZ (India).
Edgar Chekera said: “My role in the team is making sure that the guys become the best version of themselves, and feel mentally ready.”
Global Esports recently took part in the Valorant Convergence off-season event in Bangalore, India, where they were knocked out in Group A with one win (2-1 vs Furia) and one loss (0-2 vs Vitality).
They also compete in other titles including Fortnite, Counter-Strike and Dota 2.
In other UK Valorant coaching news, Mini recently returned to Fnatic’s Valorant team. He’ll now be working as assistant coach, rather than his prior role of head coach.
