One of the UK’s leading mental health charities dedicated to suicide prevention, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), has partnered with AnimeCon London.
CALM will be partnering with a number of AnimeCon’s artists to build a collection of exclusive art, just for the inaugural London show. The art will then be sold at the show, with a portion of the proceeds being donated directly to the charity. Attendees will also be able to pledge a voluntary donation at the point of sale when purchasing a ticket.
AnimeCon London will take place on February 3rd and 4th 2023 as the first non-music event held at London’s Drumsheds venue.
It’s also the show’s first event in London after success at the NEC in Birmingham, and is aimed at fans of anime, manga, gaming and geek culture.
The event is separate to the similarly named Anime & Gaming Con events, which held shows in Norwich and other locations earlier this year.
What’s on at AnimeCon London 2024
Artists already confirmed for AnimeCon London include voice acting legend Keith Silverstein, who plays Zhongli in Genshin Impact and Torbjörn in Overwatch, Brianna Knickerbocker, the voice of Hu Tao, Josey Montana McCoy, who voices Kaeya, and Nazeeh Tarsha, who plays Alhaitham.
Brianna Knickerbocker also made an appearance at AnimeCon UK 2023 in Birmingham.
Fans can expect entertainment including the Artists Alley, which will feature over 200 exhibitors, a pop-up market with anime artists showing off their wares, cosplayers and an appearance from the celebrated London anime themed restaurant Uzumaki.
After the show on Saturday, there will be an anime-themed afterparty headlined by anime DJ Level up Leroy. This will be held in the Drumsheds music hall, with cosplay dress encouraged.
AnimeCon London promises ‘the highest standard of accessibility’ to guests
AnimeCon UK has also promised guests ‘the highest standard of accessibility, to ensure that people from all walks of life are able to attend and feel welcomed’. AnimeCon UK has also produced visual guides for those with communication difficulties.
AnimeCon’s Clive Norgaard Morton said: “Creating a safe space for attendees to enjoy the event and to be free to be themselves is at the heart of what AnimeCon is all about. It’s of paramount importance to the event organisers that people have the facilities they need to be able to comfortably enjoy their day.”
Organisers say security staff will be on hand to ensure the safety of the attendees and will be briefed especially for the care of event attendees.
Drumsheds also has step-free access from Meridian Water station via a lift and is served by low-floor TFL bus services with wheelchair spaces and ramps. The venue has mobile accessible toilets outside the venue and accessible toilets on levels 0 and 1. They also have a trained medical team on hand at each event.
