UK streamer AngryGinge has apologised after sharing footage of himself chanting with Manchester United football fans about food poverty to Everton fans.
The Man U fan, who has some 130,000 followers on Twitter and more than 600,000 on Twitch, was filmed chanting, ‘feed the scousers, let them know it’s Christmas time’, to the tune of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ by Bob Geldof’s Band Aid.
This was during the match between Everton and Man United on Sunday November 26th 2023 at Goodison Park in Liverpool.
Some criticised AngryGinge for his actions, while others said the reaction to it was overblown. Regardless, this video of his chant has been viewed 4.5m times so far.
AngryGinge, who is a part of Horizon Union, a content creator business formed in the UK, said he was ‘genuinely sorry’.
“I’ve just seen the tweets that are going around about the chant I sang at the Everton game. I’m so sorry I sang that chant, I got caught up in the moment and didn’t think about what it actually meant.
“I’ve been told by some of my scouse mates that it’s mocking poverty, and I want to say I’m so sorry I sang it and if I offended you. I’ve come from that background, on a council estate and ate £1 microwave meals every night. I 100% sympathise with you and I’m sorry, I genuinely meant nothing by it, I just got caught up.
“I’m so disappointed to be honest and I understand the anger, 100% because it’s wrong, I did not mean to do it at all.”
AngryGinge’s apology video has been viewed more than 8m times on Twitter so far.
The content creator is known for his videos on Fortnite, EA FC 24 and Grand Theft Auto.
