Welsh Masters 2023 will find players for World Esports Championships
The top players from the Welsh Masters tournament in CSGO, Efootball, Dota 2 and Tekken will also have the opportunity to compete in qualifiers for the International Esports Federation’s (IeSF’s) World Esports Championships in Iasi, Romania.
Welsh esports body, Esports Wales, said in a press release that the games have been selected ‘to showcase the diverse range of esports talent in Wales’.
“Esports Wales is committed to developing and promoting esports in Wales, and we believe that this tournament will help put Welsh esports on the map,” the press release stated.
“The World Esports Championships is one of the biggest esports events in the world, and we are excited to give Welsh players the chance to compete on this global stage. The Welsh Masters tournament will provide a platform for talented players to showcase their skills and compete for the opportunity to represent their country in Iasi.”
For CSGO, Esports Wales will be selecting players for both the Open and Women’s teams.
The news comes shortly after several big esports organisations announced women’s CSGO teams, including the Guild CSGO women’s team, as well as G2 and FaZe to name a few.
It also comes as year after the 2022 Welsh Masters, and half a year after Wales won gold in the Rocket League open, silver in eFootball women’s and bronze in the eFootball open at the 2022 Commonwealth Esports Championships.
