Guild X, the women’s Valorant team of UK esports organisation Guild, made history today by beating their long-time rivals G2 Gozen today in the final of the VCT Game Changers EMEA Series 3.
Guild turned around a 2-1 deficit to secure a 3-2 victory in an intense five-game thriller.
It was a huge win for Guild, who had fallen to G2 Gozen many times in the VCT (Valorant Champions Tour) Game Changers women’s circuit in the past, including in the Game Changers EMEA Series 2 final earlier this year.
Not only did Guild X finally get revenge on G2, they also broke G2 Gozen’s winning streak of three VCT Game Changers tournaments in a row.
On top of this, by winning EMEA Series 3, Guild X have booked themselves a place in the VCT 2022 Game Changers Championship – a live LAN event which will take place in Berlin from November 15th to 20th 2022.
There, Guild will face (yep you guessed it) G2 again, along with six other teams to be determined from around the world.
Guild gave it all they got today, for after G2 won the first map in today’s final, on Bind, 13-6, Guild fought back to win Fracture 13-3.
G2 won on Pearl 13-6, before Guild won two games in a row, 13-9, on Ascent and Icebox.
Guild started off the tournament strongly, beating Into the Breach Prime and BBQ Queens 2-0, before losing to G2 Gozen 2-1 in the upper bracket semi-finals.
They then beat Acend Rising 2-1, fellow UK org Tenstar Nova 2-0 then Navi Celestials 2-0 in the lower bracket to book a place in the final, where they defeated G2 Gozen.
G2, on the other hand, had a very strong upper bracket run to the final, defeating Case Hydra, Rix.GG Lightning, Guild X and Navi Celestials to reach the final. All of their games were 2-0 wins except for their upper bracket game against Guild, which they won 2-1.
Guild X gloat in sweet revenge video over G2 Gozen
This story of course wouldn’t be complete without Guild throwing a little bit of banter at G2’s way.
Earlier this year, G2 Gozen cheekily celebrated taking first place in the VCT Game Changers EMEA Series 1 by carrying rubbish bags with the Guild logo on them.
Today, Guild responded in kind by posting a video of the Guild X team treading on a photo of the G2 Gozen roster.
Guild X player aNNja said: “Oh guys, wait, I think we stepped on something…”
roxi also added that they enjoy the rivalry with G2:
G2 lost with dignity, giving GGs to Guild and saying they’ll come back stronger next time.
In other recent Guild Esports news, Guild signed Sky as £2m-a-year premier partner, said they will form a women’s Rocket League team, and renegotiated their deal with David Beckham.
