The Overwatch League 2022 Summer Showdown is around the corner, and UK esports team franchise London Spitfire will be taking part.
The Summer Showdown will be an online event for East teams from September 9th to 11th 2022, and a live offline LAN tournament for West teams at the Toronto Defiant in Canada, running from September 8th to 11th.
Teams locked in and taking part include the following, plus their scoring in the qualifiers:
East
- Shanghai Dragons (6-0)
- Seoul Dynasty (5-1)
- Guangzhou Charge (4-2)
- Philadelphia Fusion (2-4)
West
- Dallas Fuel (6-0)
- San Francisco Shock (5-1)
- Houston Outlaws (4-2)
- Toronto Defiant (4-2)
- London Spitfire (3-3)
- Vancouver Titans (3-3)
- Washington Justice (3-3)
- Florida Mayhem (3-3)
London Spitfire qualified for the Summer Showdown after their 3-1 victory over Toronto Definat yesterday (September 4th).
UK Overwatch caster Jace said: “In a meta where there is only one viable tank and two viable supports, it’s impressive that London managed to qualify considering their strength of schedule. By no means should anyone expect a title run for the ages from this team in Toronto, but they might be able to knock off the home team in the first game at least. The harder that Junker Queen is nerfed the better for the Spitfire.”
In terms of prizing, there will be $330,000 up for grabs overall, with first place of Western teams taking home $75,000, second $50,000, third $40,000, fourth $30,000, and fifth and sixth each receiving $15,000.
East teams will receive $50,000 for first place, $35,000 for second and $20,000 for third.
The Summer Showdown format will feature regional double-elimination bracket play, with teams seeded according to their total League Points from six qualifier matches.
Matches will be in first-to-three map wins format except for the respective tournament finals, which will be first-to-four.
London Spitfire are currently fifth in the overall West standings of the 2022 Overwatch League, with 11 wins and seven losses – a much better performance than last season, when London Spitfire only picked up one win in the 2021 Overwatch League.
