Elliot ‘Frenzy’ Grossman, a Smash Bros Melee player representing UK esports organisation Reason Gaming, will be the first player from the UK to compete at a Smash Summit event.
He won a vote to attend Smash Summit 13, which takes place from May 12th to 15th 2022 in Los Angeles and will feature a host of other top Melee players from around the world.
Frenzy has previously cast at Smash Summit 10 Online, an event that UK player Laurster almost qualified for, but this will be the first time a UK player will be competing in the main event at Smash Summit.
Esports News UK understands Frenzy has also bootcamped at the Summit in the past. He’s a Falco main and is currently second in the UK Smash Power Rankings behind Professor Pro.
The UK Smash scene, members of Reason Gaming, other players and members of the community rallied around Frenzy to help him amass enough votes to attend.
Frenzy thanked several people for getting him to the summit, and in particular British actor Asa Butterfield, who works with Team Liquid and endorsed the campaign to get him there.
Smash Summit invites top players to attend the event – this time including the likes of Liquid Hungrybox – as well as allowing some players to qualify from Genesis 8.
Organisers also allow the community to nominate and vote for players to attend. Extra votes can be made by purchasing items and merch from the Smash Summit shop, with 50% of proceeds going towards event goals. And the crowdfunded prize pool for singles currently stands at more than $23,000.
Frenzy received more than 27,000 votes. He joins other European players – Leffen and Pipsqueak, both from Sweden – at Smash Summit 13. The rest are US players, with one player from Nicaragua (n0ne) and one from Australia (Sora). Voting is still ongoing for the remaining players on the Smash Summit website.
Some of the people campaigning to get Frenzy at Smash Summit 13 included UK Reason FGC player MetalQueerSolid, who we recently interviewed, and UK tournament broadcaster/organiser Shais, who we understand produced content, set up forms and more.
Here’s a skit to celebrate Frenzy’s arrival at Smash Summit 13.
