Arcane’s creators have spoken about what fans can expect from Vi and Caitlyn’s relationship in Season 2 of Arcane

Caitlyn and Vi Arcane

Arcane was a smash hit for Riot Games when it launched on Netflix last year, picking up rave reviews from fans and critics alike, as well as awards like the nine accolades it picked up at the recent Annie Awards.

It was the portrayal of characters and their relationships that the League of Legends animated show did so well. One relationship that caught viewers’ interest in particular was between Caitlyn, an enforcer in Piltover, and the undercity rebel, Vi.

Vi affectionately named Caitlyn ‘Cupcake’, and there was clearly chemistry between the two, though nothing romantic was officially made clear. Could this change in Arcane Season 2?

The creators of Arcane, Christian Linke and Alex Yee, spoke about this as part of a panel with BAFTA on Twitch just now.

When asked what fans can expect from the relationship between Vi and Caitlyn in Season 2 of Arcane, Alex Yee, a creative designer working at Riot Games, told BAFTA: “I think I can figure out how to answer this with the correct degree of vagueness!

“We have always wanted to tell an organic story about Caitlyn and Vi that feels like it’s really true to how we see them, you know, and how they’ve been seen.”

“We have always wanted to tell an organic story about Caitlyn and Vi that feels like it’s really true to how we see them, you know, and how they’ve been seen.

“The way in which we want to roll that story out has always been determined. So what you will see in Season 2 will be part of the big picture that we’ve had all along.”

So, vague enough but offering some piece of insight for fans as to what to expect from Season 2. Alex did also say that asking open questions about shows is healthy, but that “if you answer all of them or too many of them, you kill some of the magic”.

Christian also added in the interview that the Arcane team have had ‘sore thumbs from browsing Reddit and Instagram’ and reading fans’ compliments on the show.

“It’s really appreciated and makes a real difference,” he added. “This wasn’t just a job, it was a commitment from everyone.”

The comments come after Riot Games recently acquired a stake in Fortiche Production, the French animation studio behind Arcane and other LoL videos.
