Esports tournament organiser Gfinity has announced a new tournament in partnership with broadcaster BT Sport.
The BT Sport FIFA Challenge will consist of six episodes and four teams, including well-known personalities and faces from BT Sport’s football and rugby broadcast teams, as reported by proactiveinvestors.co.uk.
These will include the likes of Robbie Savage, Joe Cole, Ugo Monye and Chelcee Grimes.
The series will use the FIFA20 video game developed by game developer EA Sports and will feature sports stars such as Robbie Savage, Joe Cole and Ugo Monye, while Chelcee Grimes, singer, songwriter and Fulham Ladies player, will captain a women’s team.
A draft show kicked off on May 8th, and there will be more episodes followed by a final on June 5th.
“A key part of our strategy is to create new and compelling content and we are delighted to be working with BT Sport to bring a new gaming entertainment show to sports fans”, said Gfinity chief executive John Clarke.
“Virtual gaming shows are capturing the imagination of fans across the globe as they enable them to connect with their sporting heroes like never before. We have seen this with the products we have created for Formula 1, across our eCricket series and now with FIFA20. This is the first of a number of gaming show formats Gfinity will be developing with BT Sport in the months ahead.”
In recent months, Gfinity has made a name for itself in the stay-at-home esports space with traditional sports personalities.
For example, the aforementioned eCricket Challenge, with pro cricketers taking part including England’s Stuart Broad, and the popular F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix Series, which includes actual F1 drivers, as well as sim drivers, esports personalities and more.
Earlier this year, Gfinity announced a cost reducation programme.
