The NUEL, the UK’s well-established inter-university esports tournament and student community, is launching a student-only streamer network.
This network will use the Twitch Student initiative, which provides support, knowledge and tools to help students run streams and contribute to the video games and esports industries.
The NUEL says it will be the first of its kind to champion student creators across the UK.
The upcoming pilot program will provide 10 rising student streamers with a variety of tailored support to help develop their stream, including regular promotion from Twitch, educational workshops, gaming and streaming equipment from Republic of Gamers and monthly financial support to aid channel growth.
To apply, students will need to stream for at least nine hours a week and be a Twitch affiliate.
Student streamers that don’t make the pilot program will have access to the tools and resources provided by The NUEL’s Student Stream Community. This will aim to help prepare them for the next opportunity to join the Streamer Network.
“This streamer network will empower students seeking to further delve into the world of content creation by giving them the tools and resources to do so.”
Josh Williams, the NUEL
‘The digital media skills students can develop through livestreaming will be invaluable in the modern evolving job market,” said NUEL founder and MD Josh Williams.
“Over the past year we’ve witnessed how this pioneering program has helped students at 10 participating student societies, now we’re excited to extend these opportunities to individual students.
“This streamer network will empower students seeking to further delve into the world of content creation by giving them the tools and resources to do so.”
Mark “Garvey” Candella, director of strategic partnerships at Twitch, added: “We have had the pleasure of working with the NUEL for many years now and have always shared the three core values of community, competition and career that add so much value to students.
“With The NUEL’s Student Streamer Network we can focus on education in the business of the new digital media world. We look forward to working with The NUEL, and the students they are in the service of, for many years to come.”
The NUEL runs across 124 UK universities reaching 16,000 students.
