Gears of War esports is on the up in the UK – the EGL Gears Open is holding another event, this time in London.
Following the EGL Gears Open in Sheffield, the European Gaming League has partnered once again with The Coalition and Microsoft to bring another Gears esports event to the UK.
It will take place at Stamford Bridge, the home of Chelsea Football Club, on June 9th and 10th.
The double elimination tournament will feature up to 32 teams competing for a share of $20,000 and 68,000 Gears Pro Points.
“Fresh off the success of the EGL Gears Open – Sheffield we’re pleased to announce a further partnership with The Coalition & Microsoft that’ll see EGL bring Gears Esports to the capital of the UK”
Teams will be seeded based on their accumulated Pro Circuit Pro Points and will be asked to submit their roster no later than June 7th June.
Once again it’s an over 18s event.

Gears of War is not the biggest esport in the world, but the game franchise is still going reasonably strong following its initial wave of popularity when the first game launched more than a decade ago on Xbox 360.
Gears has built up a dedicated passionate following within esports, and its third-person cover-and-fire style gameplay sets itself apart from a lot of the twitch-style shooters out there.
Time will tell whether it’s an esport that’s here to stay in the long-term, but its Pro Circuit has certainly made an impact in recent years.
