FIFA 17 esports matches will be shown on UK TV via BT Sport.
The broadcaster has acquired the rights to show the remaining four EA Ultimate Team Championship Series dates, reports The Guardian.
It will be broadcasting the following:
- The North American regional final – April 8th
- Asia-Pacific heats – April 22nd
- European regional final – May 6th
- Grand final – May 20th to 21st
Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “This is yet another example of live innovation from BT Sport.
“Competitive interactive football gaming is a rapidly growing industry and I’m delighted that BT Sport is now able to showcase it for the first time ever in the UK.”
Todd Sitrin, senior vice president and general manager of EA’s competitive gaming division, added: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with BT Sport to make our exciting competitions for EA Sports FIFA, the most popular video game in the UK, available across the nation as we move the industry forward.”
EA recently announced the $1.3 million Ultimate Team Championship Series, and FIFA upped the prize pool for the Interactive World Cup (it’s now $300,000 and the finals take place in London).
