Tickets for the live League of Legends derby match between Leicester University and De Montfort University are now on sale.
The Varsity Games event will take place on Saturday March 11th at the ESL UK studio in Leicester.
It’s the first in a new series of derby matches to be organised by Varsity Games.
Students will play and operate all production and broadcast talent positions on the day, from producer to desk host.
“We’re really excited to be involved in helping to facilitate, not just the next generation of esports players from the UK, but also the next generation of esports industry professionals.”
The day will be kicking off with two rounds of best-of-one matches followed by the best-of-three finals, as outlined on the event’s Facebook page.
Rob Black of ESL UK said: “We’re really excited to be involved in helping to facilitate, not just the next generation of esports players from the UK, but also the next generation of esports industry professionals. Being able to do that while supporting students in our local Leicester community makes this one of the highlights of our year so far.”
Amy Yu, Varsity Games MD, added: ‘There’s growing enthusiasm for gaming within UK universities – and the mission of Varsity Games is to provide an authentic grassroots platform to recognise and reward student players competing to represent their universities.
“Our Derby series aims to bring local tournaments to regional university teams and we are excited to be kicking off the first event at the ESL studio!”
Tickets for the event are priced at £3 (redeemable against a beer upon arrival) and are available here
