Switch 2 is Nintendo’s fastest-selling console ever with 3.5m sales in four days

Nintendo has announced that its brand new Switch 2 console has sold over 3.5 million units globally in just its first four days since its June 5th release.

Some had criticised the console for only having one major launch title in Mario Kart World.

Yet, the powerful console is flying off the shelves and is now Nintendo’s fastest-selling console ever.

And those numbers will likely keep rising with other major titles like Donkey Kong Bananza and Pokémon Legends: Z-A releasing later this year.

Mario Kart World and upgraded versions of old games have already provided fans with plenty of funny moments on the Switch 2.

Before its release, Nintendo projected it would sell around 15 million consoles in the next financial year.

Market researchers Ampere Analysis have predicted the Switch 2 will sell 13 million copies by the end of 2025, 32.2 million copies by next year, 51.2 million by the end of 2027 and then 104.3 million units by the end of the current decade.

If those predictions prove to be true, it would put the Switch 2 close to the Nintendo Wii’s total sales.

The original Wii only sold 600k units in its first eight days, but overall has sold over 101.6 million units, as of November 2024.

Meanwhile, these impressive Swich 2 numbers mean the newest console has already sold over 25% of the Wii U’s total sales, as the flopped console only managed 13.7 million sales.

The first Nintendo Switch was extremely popular, yet it ‘only’ sold 2.7m units after its first month of sales.

The Switch 2 has also raced ahead of Sony’s last PlayStation consoles.

The PlayStation 4 sold 2.1 million units in its first two weeks and then 4.2 million after six weeks.

On the other hand, the PlayStation 5 took seven weeks to sell 4.4 million units.

However, the PS5 was initially held back by supply constraints caused by Covid and a staggered launch, releasing in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, North America, and South Korea before a full global release a week later.
