In a surprising turn of events, the developers of Teamfight Tactics have announced the return of Set 3.5 Galaxies: Return to the Stars.

This much-loved mid-set is returning as a temporary game mode to join in the Lunar Legacy event celebrations hosted by Riot Games.

Beginning on Jan. 24, 2024, players can indulge in the nostalgia of classic TFT gameplay until its climax on March 19. And to sweeten the deal, the developers have hinted at the inclusion of new Augments, adding an extra layer of excitement to the game.

What Led Riot to Resurrect Galaxies: Return to the Stars in TFT?

The fifth anniversary of Teamfight Tactics seems like the perfect opportunity to revisit some of the game’s most cherished memories. Galaxies: Return to the Stars, in particular, held a special place in the hearts of many players.

“Return to the Stars was one of our most beloved mid-sets and relatively untouched by many of the modern advancements in TFT, which made it a great set to kick off our set revivals and celebrate Lunar New Year,” said Christina Jiang, Product Manager for Set 3.5 Revival: Galaxies.

This set was first introduced to the public on June 10, 2020, as part of the V10.12 content update for League of Legends. It introduced many new features and champions such as Illaoi, Riven and Viktor.

This updated version of the set will remain relatively untouched regarding its core features while incorporating the balanced character changes that TFT has embraced today. Amid the thrill and competition of DFS NFL odds, this throwback experience offers players a unique blend of nostalgia and fresh gameplay.

Anticipating the Revival of Set 3.5 in Teamfight Tactics

The anticipation for the revival of Set 3.5 in Teamfight Tactics is palpable for some TFT players.

Players eagerly await the fusion of modern Set 10 TFT elements and features from the beloved Galaxies: Return to the Stars.

The return of Set 3.5 will see Return to the Stars match the active set’s core systems and items. This means modern champion drop percentages, champion bag sizes, leveling costs, item inventory and other core system updates.

The set will also integrate quality-of-life updates Riot has made over the years, such as the pop-up panel on the carousel to help identify the item and champion you’re viewing, modern day champion tooltip improvements and more.

As January moves forward, the nostalgia escalates, with some in the TFT gaming community looking forward to reliving Set 3.5 with a more present Teamfight Tactics experience.

This year’s refreshed version in Set 3.5 Revival: Galaxies also includes an all-new event pass and vault items that lean into the Year of the Dragon while including celestial elements from its original incarnation.

Teamfight Tactics players can also unlock a variety of Year of the Dragon cosmetics, designed to seamlessly blend traditional aesthetics with contemporary designs that feel fresh (and a little wacky). Highlights include Chibi Prestige Dragon Fist Lee Sin, Chibi Porcelain Lux, Chibi Guqin Sona, and the stunning Golden Dragon Skyscraper arena.

Conclusion

The revival of Set 3.5 Galaxies: Return to the Stars in Teamfight Tactics shows Riot Games wants to honour the game’s legacy while adding new features and gameplay elements.

This event announcement was well-received by the community and the return of Set 3.5 may be seen as a milestone in the TFT timeline to some.

As we await the event’s launch, the excitement from some in the gaming community may continue to build for this celebration of TFT’s past and present.
