It seems that Andrew Tate, the controversial British-American internet personality and former kickboxer, has been unbanned on Twitter.
Yesterday the Cobratate Twitter account published the following, saying: “Losing simply isn’t an option. Such is the way of Wudan.”
Back in August 2022, Andrew Tate was banned on multiple social media accounts including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok for some of his controversial comments online, with many suggesting he is misogynistic – a claim that Tate denies.
Andrew Tate was actually banned on Twitter five years ago, but it seems that Twitter’ new owner Elon Musk has lifted the ban.
Elon Musk also publicly unbanned Kathy Griffin, Jordan Peterson and satire account The Babylon Bee, saying Twitter’s new policy is ‘freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach’, and that negative/hate tweets will be ‘max deboosted and demonetised’.
He also currently has a poll asking whether Donald Trump should be reinstated on Twitter or not. At the time of writing it has around 10m votes, with 52.3% saying yes and 47.7% voting no.
In September, Carlos ‘ocelote’ Rodríguez, former founder and CEO of European esports giants G2, departed the organisation following the storm around a video featuring him alongside Andrew Tate, and Riot Games later suspended Carlos.
Over the past month or so, Andrew Tate has also made appearances on Piers Morgan’s show in a series of interviews about why he was banned and offering an insight into his character.
Some in esports have condemned Tate for his views and behaviour, while others have argued against his bans.
Elon Musk and Twitter have been dominating tech news headlines over the past few weeks, with Musk making sweeping changes at the company including introducing a paid-for Twitter Blue service and the firing of staff from significant parts of the business.
He has given staff the choice of signing up for “long hours at high intensity” or leaving the business, with some saying a lot of core staff have left, leaving Twitter’s future uncertain.
