New esports broadcast and content production business Greyscale launches: ‘The UK tends to lack a high level of production, especially at a remote level – we want to change that’

Greyscale Esports

Two experienced broadcasters have launched a new UK-based esports broadcast production business called Greyscale.

The company has been formed by Jakub ‘Atroix’ Szmyt, who teaches esports production at the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies in Nottingham, and Felix Möller, an experienced broadcaster who works in tier one production and has a degree in business.

Greyscale will offer a range of services beyond broadcast and content production, including event staffing, teaching and training, photography, videography and more.

The business was announced a few weeks ago and hopes to improve the standards of production in UK esports and beyond.

Greyscale partners with Practice Server

On August 31st 2022, Greyscale announced it has partnered with tournament production and admin provider Practice Server to offer its services across the globe.

They will remain two separate companies but will team up to work together.

Practice Server CEO Javier ‘MonsterDface’ Collazo said: “We’re in the process of building a legacy. One day we’ll look back at the earliest era of esports and I know we’ll be a part of that story. Joining up with Greyscale is just the start of our expansion globally.”

Quickfire interview with Greyscale

We chatted with co-founder Jakub ‘Atroix’ Szmyt about his plans for the business

Please tell us about Greyscale beyond the announcement tweet, what sets you apart from other service providers and why launch now?

I started Greyscale as I’ve seen a high demand for production services that I always had to decline due to other work, and wanted to create something which would combat that, which is Greyscale!

Now if anyone reaches out, we’ve got a solution for anything ranging from videography to on-site production. I think the main thing that makes us stand out and be different is our pricing structure and company values – we are focusing on education, working with students, uploading content and being able to provide a product for anyone no matter the budget.

Are you running a tiny university show? If we can’t directly help, we can offer advice or even send people your way!

What are your short and long-term goals for the business?

Honestly I didn’t make this company with the intent of it blowing up, I want to keep it small and work on projects I enjoy. Music, remote productions, video etc. I just want to see how it will build itself out.

Will you be global or more UK-focused?

Currently mainly UK focused, but we’ve already started working with some teams to have our team travel with them to international events.

Please tell us about yourself and other members of the team.

Right now it’s just me and Felix Möller- an experienced broadcaster who works in tier 1 production and has a degree in business – he co-founded this project with me.

What are your general views on the state of broadcast/production in esports right now?

The UK tends to lack a high level of production, especially at a remote level. It could be so much more, but just isn’t. I want to change that.

What’s the latest on the esports paint drying stream?

Just scheduling is difficult – finding a time that I’m free but don’t worry we’ve got all the branding just need to find a suitable time.

Good luck with the business, Jakub.
