Pokémon Natural History Museum London pop-up sells out immediately

The Pokémon Company has partnered with the Natural History Museum to host a pop-up with new merchandise in London.

Ticket holders will be able to purchase merchandise based on the upcoming Pokécology guide to Pokémon ecology book and grab an exclusive Pikachu card.

The pop-up shop is set to open at the Cranbourne Boutique in the museum from the 26th of January through to April 19th, 2026.

Despite lasting for almost four months, all of the tickets to access the shop sold out immediately, and walk-ins will not be allowed.

However, some of the items from the event’s collection will be available in the Natural History Museum’s online shop.

Some ranges will also come to the Pokémon Center UK online store in early February.

The merchandise available at the pop-up will include artwork, stationery, clothing, pins, bags, posters, and plush.

The aesthetic inspiration for the collection ranges from scientific illustrations to architectural details of the museum itself.

For example, some merch features the iconic Hintze Hall and its ornate botanical ceiling panels reimagined with Grass-type Pokémon such as Ivysaur and Victreebel.

According to the press release, as part of the collaboration, the pop-up will help support the Natural History Museum:

“Every purchase made in the Museum shop and online store will directly support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission, including the work of over 400 scientists researching biodiversity and tackling the planetary emergency.”

Exclusive ‘Pikachu at the Museum’ oversized Pokémon TCG card

Every person who purchases something at the physical Museum pop-up store will be given an exclusive Pikachu at the Museum Pokémon card.

The popularity of the Pokémon trading card game (TCG) is potentially at an all-time high.

Even the digital version, Pokémon TCG Pocket made more income than Pokémon Go in its first year, with almost $1.3 billion (£988m) in profits.

So, there is a lot of excitement about this new rare card, but that also leads to scalpers determined to collect the free card and make quick profits.

That likely contributed to the fast ticket sales, as these event-exclusive cards have caused issues with scalpers in the past.

In 2023, Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum had to pull the Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat promo card due to safety concerns after scalpers and fans mobbed its gift shop and rapidly cleaned out all of its stock.
