Virtus.pro are the first-ever Marvel Rivals Ignite Grand Finals champions

Virtus.pro have won the first-ever Marvel Rivals Ignite Grand Finals, the finale of hero shooter’s first major LAN esports event.

The EMEA first seeds won the $1 million (£761k) event, taking home a $320k (£243k) lion’s share of the prize pool.

They defeated another EMEA team in Natus Vincere (NAVI) 4-1 to win the trophy at DreamHack Atlanta.

In the early stages of Marvel Rivals Ignite, Virtus.pro were considered one of, if not the best team in the world.

Virtus.pro had won the EMEA Season 1 Championship, the EMEA Invitational, and 12 different European Rivals Fight Night events.

They were undefeated yet, Virtus.pro shockingly missed out on the first-ever Marvel Rivals esports LAN.

The team’s surprise defeat in the EMEA Stage 1 Playoffs meant they missed out on the Ignite Mid-Season Finals.

However, the team recovered well to win Stage 2 in EMEA and then put together a phenomenal run at the Marvel Rivals Ignite Grand Finals.

In fact, Virtus.pro went undefeated throughout the entirety of the Grand Finals, going 5-0 in the Group Stages and undefeated in the Upper Bracket.

Virtus.pro duelist William “SparkR” Andersson was awarded the MVP award for the final and said his team deserved their success:

“This is what me and my teammates have worked for this entire year.

All our effort and hard work for this one moment and we managed to win it all. I’m very happy to receive the Finals MVP award and next year I want to win it all over again with my friends on VP.”

Meanwhile, Virtus.pro’s Overwatch 2 team is raising money to save polar bears with the WWF after missing out on OWCS.
