K-pop star Hina named as ambassador for esports team DRX

Hina, a member of K-pop band QWER, has been named as a new official ambassador for South Korean esports organisation DRX.

DRX, who has teams that compete on games including League of Legends, Valorant and Tekken, confirmed the news in a social media post in the early hours of Monday morning.

It comes at a time of a growing crossover between K-pop and esports.

In a social media post on X, the esports organisation described Hina as the ‘protagonist of a new journey with DRX’.

DRX added: “We ask for your interest and support for Hina, who will expand her stage with DRX with an unbreakable heart.

“Reaching the hearts of thousands through her music and now taking on another challenge with DRX! Please join us in welcoming QWER’s Hina to DRX as an official ambassador!”

The news has been met with a positive reaction on social media, with one fan writing on X: “Time to root for you guys then.”

While another DRX follower said: “Looks like I will be supporting DRX at VCT Paris!!!”

DRX are one of 16 teams that will be competing at VCT Paris. The South Korean esports organisation qualified based on its overall regional points.

Due to their excellent VCT Toronto performance, Fnatic will be one of the favourites with Valorant betting sites at VCT Paris.

Who is DRX ambassador Hina?

New DRX ambassador Hina is the guitarist and keyboardist of K-pop band QWER.

The group was formed through the ‘QWER project,’ a YouTube series aiming to create a girl group consisting of online personalities.

Prior to the formation of the band, she was already well known for being a popular content creator and cosplayer on TikTok.

She is known to be a big fan of gaming and anime, and also occasionally streams on Twitch.

Increased crossover of K-pop and Esports

The announcement of Hina as an official ambassador for DRX, comes at a time when there is an increasing crossover between K-pop and esports.

K-pop group PRIMROSE performed at the Stockholm League of Legends event on Saturday, August 30th.

The move was part of a broader movement to engage League of Legends fans through the popularity of K-pop.

Event organisers and League of Legends publisher Riot Games have increasingly leveraged the popularity of K-pop for engagement purposes.

Back in 2018, Riot Games launched the virtual K-pop group KD/A. Four themed versions of League of Legends Champions, Akali, Ahri, Kai’Sa, and Evelynn, take the digital stage with the backing of I-dle vocalists, and the group has become massively popular.
