The future of Rocket League has been in question ever since developers Psyonix were acquired by Epic Games.
The community were left outraged when the PC version was moved from Steam to the Epic Store in 2020.
Now, rumours are swirling around the internet that Rocket League could be moved to be launched from inside Fortnite.
The Rocket League community is already angry with pro ApparentlyJack blasting developers over Rocket League DDoS issues.
Now, there is this alleged major change, which will likely further upset a lot of the playerbase.
Rumours of the major change have been circulating all year, but recently the whispers have been gaining momentum.
Popular Fortnite leaker Blortzen recently shared all the information they had heard, with more news emerging recently.
Back in December of last year, an upcoming gamemode codenamed “RL” was apparently added to Fortnite alongside Rocket Racing.
Then, a few updates ago, a string of code leaked revealing that hat accessories from Rocket League were being added into Fortnite.
This string was titled “Dealership Hats which is what the community regularly calls the car toppers.
Allegedly, this information comes from a playtester who previously leaked a lot of the upcoming Fortnite seasons.
And if that wasn’t enough, an additional leaker called Loolo has found even more possible evidence.
A garage is being added to Fortnite titled “dealership” that lets you redesign your car.
This feels like it could be Rocket League related, but it could equally signal a revamp of the failed Rocket Racing mode.
If this does turn out to be a new version of Rocket League, it could be announced at the upcoming RLCS World Championship.
This is the esport’s biggest tournament of the year, with EWC champions Karmine Corp favourites on Rocket League betting sites.
Rocket League community reacts to Fortnite rumours
Unsurprisingly, there have been a lot of negative reactions to these Rocket League in Fortnite rumours.
Former British Rocket League pro Evie ‘Slumpii’ Leonard says she expected the change but isn’t happy:
“Wait I’m confused, why are people surprised by this? It’s been a rumour for a long time.
“Not saying it’s a good thing, it’s obviously galactically sh*t. But come on, the signs have been there for a long time now.”
Meanwhile, one Twitter user blasted Epic, saying:
“Remember how they removed trading so they could integrate RL items into Fortnite?
“Remember how they dropped support for workshop maps so they could move RL to the Epic launcher?
“Epic clearly cares more about their corporate goals than the survival of Rocket League.”
However, some are feeling more optimistic about the change, including English YouTuber Emile Cole from SubParButInHD:
“Gimme Fortnite RL if it brings UE5, more investment into the esport, creator mode, a new wave of life, better servers, ranked team mode, better UI.
“Basically all the sh*t we’ve been begging for. If I have to click twice before the game runs, I’m all for it.”
In my seven years of esports writing, I’ve introuduced esports coverage to newspapers, interviewed some of the biggest names in the industry, and driven viewers mad with the puns in my YouTube scripts. I’m most proud of the latter.
