Broken Moon axed from ALGS map rotation post-PLQ according to rulebook

Apex Legends pros can relax as Broken Moon is set to be removed from the Apex Legends Global Series map rotation after the upcoming Pro League Qualifiers. 

Since the game’s most recent update, Apex Legends players have complained about Broken Moon’s playability. Across the spectrum from casuals to the game’s most popular streamers, the onslaught of issues with the map demands a rework.

ALGS map rotation: From PLQ to Championship

The maps included in ALGS Pro League rotation are included in the ALGS Year 5 Rulebook, under Appendix H: ALGS Maps & Match Settings. 

The Preseason Qualifiers included only World’s Edge and Storm Point. For a significant period of Apex Legends’ competitive history, these were the only two maps included in the Pro League. 

During Pro League Split 1 and Challenger Circuit Split 1, World’s Edge was removed from rotation. The three maps in rotation were Storm Point, E-District, and Broken Moon. For the ALGS Open and Midseason Playoffs, both offline LAN tournaments, World’s Edge was reincluded in the competitive map pool. 

However, all remaining online (non-LAN) games in the ALGS season are due to be played on Storm Point, E-District, and World’s Edge. 

The map pool for the ALGS Championship, scheduled to take place from January 15th to 18th in Sapporo, Japan, has not yet been determined. Here, teams will battle it out for the ultimate Apex Legends title, with titans such as Alliance and Team Falcons holding good odds on Esports betting sites to take the trophy.

Still TBD, the Championship maps are not featured in the Rulebook at the time of publishing. Teams will have to continue preparing for the LAN showdown without this knowledge. 

What’s up with Broken Moon? Community complaints post-update

Broken Moon went through a significant change in Season 21: Upheaval. Numerous POIs were remade, received additions, or were replaced entirely. The update also added several new rotations for players navigating ring pulls during the game. 

However, in Season 25: Prodigy, complaints about Broken Moon are resurfacing. 

The latest vocal community complaints were raised after popular Apex Legends streamer, former pro, and ALGS B-Stream host, Jack ‘NiceWigg’ Martin, called for developers Respawn Entertainment to “delete Broken Moon from Apex.”

Comments further down the thread explored the map’s issues in more detail. 

NiceWigg developed on his evident gripes with the map, explaining that “you can’t find flow,” and there are “choke points, awkward buildings/height, and zipline rails for quick access to third party in zone,” which “make it impossible to keep a rhythm throughout the game.”

Active pro players defended his stance. FURIA’s Keon ‘Keon’ Berghout added that “that map ruins my day every time it comes through the rotation.” 

Mac “Albralelie” Beckwith also supported NiceWiggs complaints:

“POI’s are too stacked on top of each other with blatant unpunishable power positions, for example Cliffsides design makes pushing from south -> north against anyone with hands completely impossible. There’s a ton of other places on the map that have this exact problem.”

The blatant disdain for Broken Moon on public display should set alarm bells ringing for Apex Legends developers. 

However, pro players can thank their lucky stars. Broken Moon will be absent from competitive rotation after PLQs… for now, at least.
