London-based esports organisation, GiantX, has reached the Grand Final of the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) Game Changers EMEA Stage 2.
The team defeated SK Nebula in the Lower Bracket Final in a close 2-1 series.
In the Grand Final, they will face Karmine Corp GC once again for the title today at 4pm BST.
GiantX beat SK Nebula
The first map on Icebox was explosive as GiantX (GX) and SK Nebula (SK) were keen to take the early series lead.
Initially in GX’s favour, SK snapped back to equalise the first half, 6-6.
The second half mirrored the first, with SK taking the pistol and bonus round, with GX coming back to equal the scores once again.
The first map would be decided in overtime, but neither team would give up.
In triple overtime, it was SK that came out on top to take the first map.
GX were keen to reassert their dominance and quickly took the second map on Split, 13-4.
Heading onto Sunset for map 3, the teams were back to being neck-and-neck.
Trading rounds throughout, SK emerged with the lead in the first half, going 7-5.
The second half was much the same as both sides traded rounds.
However, GX were able to take consecutive rounds, which helped them to just take the map 13-11.
With all to play for on Pearl, it was dead even yet again as the first half ended at 6-6.
However, GX managed to pull out a stellar performance to take the map and the series.
GiantX to rematch Karmine Corp GC in Grand Final
The British-based team will now face Karmine Corp GC in the Grand Final and a rematch of the Upper Bracket Final.
Last time, it was Karmine Corp GC who came out on top with a swift 2-0.
Despite this, GiantX are the favourites to take the title at VCT Game Changers EMEA, according to Valorant betting sites.
This is well deserved as the team has been in particularly good form throughout the tournament.
The Grand Final of VCT Game Changers EMEA takes place later today at 4pm BST.
The match will be streamed on the official Valorant EMEA Twitch channel, alongside many British co-streamers who’ll be behind the team.
VCT Game Changers EMEA Stage 2 recap
The tournament kicked off back on May 26th, with the biggest surprise being Twisted Minds Orchid taking G2 Gozen all the way to map 3.
The team that came up through the Contenders Series were able to push the formidable G2 Gozen to the limit.
Taking the first map 13-4 and later going the distance in an intense map 3 which ended on 13-10 to G2 Gozen.
GiantX had a rough start to the tournament after losing to Contenders Series team, BLVKHVND.
They managed to bounce back to eventually end the Group Stage as the second seed.
Elsewhere, Game Changers Stage 1 teams, Heroic Valkyries and Zerance Mint struggled to keep up and were eventually eliminated in the Group Stage.
Taking their places in the Playoffs were the aforementioned Contenders teams of Twisted Minds Orchid and BLVKHVND.
Going into the playoffs, it was G2 Gozen and GiantX who had guaranteed places in the Upper Bracket Semifinals as the top two teams of the Group Stage.
Unfortunately for Twisted Minds Orchid and BLVKHVND, they were eliminated in the first round, allowing SK Nebula and Karmine Corp GC to go forward.
In their first match loss of the tournament, G2 Gozen were knocked down to the Lower Bracket by Karmine Corp GC.
SK Nebula shocked everyone by eliminating G2 Gozen from the tournament, despite losing to GiantX in the Upper Bracket.
Out of the top three teams, it was GiantX who took the longer route to the Grand Final.
Losing to Karmine Corp GC and heading to the Lower Bracket before defeating SK Nebula to enter the Grand Final.
