The London-based GiantX are now in the lower bracket of the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) Game Changers EMEA after losing to Karmine Corp GC.
GiantX have been in good form recently, having ended Group Stage as the second seed and pushed through the upper bracket.
The team will now face elimination as they go up against SK Nebula at 4pm today in a rematch, which GiantX previously won.
VCT Game Changers EMEA – Stage 2
In the Group Stage, GiantX were able to ease through the competition to end with a record of 7-2.
The two teams they were unable to beat in the Group Stage were BLVKHVND and G2 Esports.
Fortunately for GiantX, SK Nebula came to their rescue to eliminate both teams in the Playoffs.
It all seemed to be going well for GiantX as they initially defeated SK Nebula to proceed in the upper bracket.
However, it was Karmine Corp GC that brought the team back to reality, knocking them down into the lower bracket.
Karmine Corp GC defeats GiantX
Opening with the first map on Ascent, it was GiantX (GX) who took the pistol round.
However, Karmine Corp GC (KC) fought back to earn the thrifty and take the early lead.
Thanks to a strong hold from GX’s Sarah ‘sarah’ Ahmed after an aggressive push out onto the A-site.
GX were able to bring it back and end the first half with an even 6-6.
The second half would mimic the first after GX won the pistol round, only to lose the next.
The score would be even once again heading into round 17.
However, a failed retake by GX would be the beginning of the end for the team.
KC were able to take round after round with GX only being able to watch.
A solid 4k and mid hold from Yağmur ‘Smurfette’ Gündüz gave GX a little bit of hope.
Eventually, it wasn’t enough as KC closed out the first map 13-10.
The second map on Haven would be an uphill battle for GX.
With a map down and going into KC’s map pick, the odds were stacked against them.
The pressure seemed to have gotten to GX, as KC proceeded to steamroll the team throughout the early rounds.
Summing it up nicely was KC’s Azra ‘alkyia’ Erin as she managed to secure three kills with just two bullets on the Outlaw.
KC continued to rain down all hell on GX as they continued to take round after round.
Once again, sarah came to GX’s rescue to win the 1v1 and bring them back into the game.
Ultimately, KC had built up too much of a lead for GX to handle as they took the first half 10-2.
The lead proved to be too much for GX, and KC eventually took the map 13-2.
Thus sweeping the series 2-0 and sending GX down to the lower bracket of the tournament.
GiantX to rematch SK Nebula
The British-based team will now face SK Nebula in a rematch of the upper bracket semifinal, which GX won 2-1.
GiantX have defeated SK Nebula before, however, their previous meeting wasn’t as smooth as they’d hoped.
On each map GiantX took, SK Nebula pushed them to the limit, with both maps ending 13-11.
Meanwhile, the one map which SK Nebula were able to secure was a more comfortable 13-5.
Both teams will fight for their survival in VCT Game Changers EMEA Stage 2, with the odds being dead even on Valorant betting sites.
