Street Fighter 6 has finally teased its collaboration with K-pop girl group aespa.
The teaser comes just over a week after the collaboration was leaked in-game, as players saw aespa brandished by one of the characters.
Official details haven’t been revealed yet, however, the leaks show that the collaboration will be character cosmetics.
aespa ‘Set The Tone’ in Street Fighter 6
The popular K-pop group, aespa, consist of members Karina, Giselle, Winter, and NingNing.
Their name comes from a combination of ‘Avatar X Experience’ and ‘aspect’, as part of their virtual characters and metaverse concept behind the group.
The group is set to feature in the popular fighting game series, Street Fighter 6.
A mix-up within the game’s code caused the collaboration to be accidentally revealed as players discovered an aespa-themed outfit for the character Juri Han.
In an almost comical response, Capcom fixed the issue and refused to elaborate further.
Hoping that players would simply forget about a popular K-pop group’s name being shown on one of the characters.
Another variation of the outfit was also leaked on Reddit, which has left fans wondering if aespa will only feature on Juri Han outfits.
Aespa’s appearance is the latest collaboration for Street Fighter 6, having previously collaborated with the likes of Monster Hunter, Spy x Family, and Tekken.
K-pop ‘Kill It’ with gaming collaborations
The collaboration is yet another for K-pop and video games, with a long history of collaborations.
One of the earliest and most famous examples was the virtual K-pop group by Riot Games in 2018, known as K/DA.
In reality, the vocals were provided by Soyeon and Miyeon from (G)I-dle (now I-dle), Madison Beer and Jaira Burns.
The group’s popularity skyrocketed, which prompted Riot Games to plan a comeback for K/DA, called All Out, which was released in 2020.
Noticing the growing trend, many K-pop companies jumped into this new market.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) has been one of the biggest draws for the K-pop industry, in part due to South Korean developers Krafton.
PUBG and its mobile iteration, PUBG Mobile, have seen collaborations with K-pop groups, Blackpink, G(I)-dle, New Jeans, and Babymonster.
Another notable collaboration is Overwatch 2 featuring the girl group Lesserafim.
The group have been featured in the game during special events and even performed at publisher Blizzard’s convention, BlizzCon2023.
The group returned to the game for a second collaboration to promote their new album ‘Fearless’.
Not to be outdone, Riot Games would continue their work with the K-pop industry with the launch of virtual boy group Heartsteel.
Adding to this, they collaborated with New Jeans to release the song titled ‘GODS’, focused on esports player, Kim ‘Deft’ Hyuk-kyu.
Internet in ‘Hot Mess’ after aespa teaser

Others shared their concerns about the extent of the collaborations.
Having been fatigued by the amount of simple character outfits and not the preferred redesigns of avatars.
