The second-seeded team from EMEA, Team Heretics, has been knocked out of the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) Masters Toronto.
The team fell short to Pacific’s Paper Rex, which put them up for elimination in their match against British-owned Wolves Esports.
After a close series, Team Heretics were sent packing and ended the tournament without a single map win.
Wolves Esports defeat Team Heretics
Team Heretics with British player Benjy ‘benjyfishy’ Fish started the season well after going undefeated in VCT 2025: EMEA Stage 1.
Going into the playoffs, the team were one of the favourites to win the tournament.
However, they didn’t perform as well as fans hoped, as they lost to UK-based Fnatic twice to come second overall.
This meant that Team Heretics would have to fight their way through the Swiss Stage to qualify for the playoffs.
In the first round, they went up against the VCT Pacific first seed, Paper Rex, who took the team by surprise and eventually won the series.
Now at risk of being eliminated, Team Heretics would go head-to-head against Wolves Esports.
With the tournament lives on the line, Wolves Esports took the early lead on Pearl, despite using the weaker weapons.
Wolves Esports would continue to push for the lead as they ended the first half 8-4.
The start of the second half wasn’t much better for Team Heretics as Tyler ‘juicy’ Aeria claimed an ace onto the team.
Fighting back, Team Heretics managed to take the second round of the half with only pistols and a dream.
However, Wolves Esports’ advantage was too much as they took the first map 13-10.
The following map on Lotus was just as close for both sides.
Once again, Wolves Esports took the first six rounds in the half.
Team Heretics would show their fighting spirit as they brought it back to 5-7 in favour of Wolves Esports at the end of the half.
Moving away from the C-site proved to be effective for Team Heretics as they slowly brought the match back to a reachable distance.
The match was decided in round 20 as both teams threw everything onto the B-site.
Ultimately, benjyfishy was unable to win the 1v2 and Wolves Esports had the momentum they needed to close out the series.
Wolves Esports and Team Liquid’s last chance at Masters Toronto
With their victory against Team Heretics, Wolves Esports will proceed to the final round of the Swiss Stage alongside EMEA’s third seed, Team Liquid.
Team Liquid, with British player Georgio ‘keiko’ Sanassy, also had a rough start at Masters Toronto.
The team faced the possibility of not being able to field a full roster after in-game leader Ayaz ‘nAts’ Akhmetshin struggled with visa issues.
In part due to the absence of nAts, Team Liquid lost to Bilibili Gaming in the first round of the Swiss Stage.
Placing them on the edge of elimination from the tournament.
Thankfully, nAts was able to join the team for their match against MIBR.
Together, Team Liquid with keiko and nAts, were able to win their match and gain one final chance to qualify for the Playoffs Stage.
Masters Toronto continues
VCT Masters Toronto will continue with the final round of the Swiss Stage this evening.
Today’s matches will kick off with Bilibili Gaming against Wolves Esports at 5pm BST.
Fortunately for Team Liquid, they would not face Bilibili Gaming in the final round since they first played each other in the first round.
Unfortunately for Wolves Esports, they have to face the first seeds from Americas and China, and the second seed from EMEA, just to qualify for the playoffs.
Following this will be the last match of the Swiss Stage, featuring Team Liquid against Paper Rex.
Partly a dark horse of international competitions, Pacific’s Paper Rex might challenge Team Liquid for the final place in the playoffs.
Their match is scheduled to commence at 8pm BST, subject to change depending on the Bilibili Gaming vs Wolves Esports match.
