UK stores to hold midnight launch for Nintendo Switch 2

UK retailer Smyths Toys has announced it will hold midnight launch events for the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 across all stores in the United Kingdom.

Stores will be open from 12:01am to 12:30am on Thursday, June 5th. This will allow those who pre-ordered via the retailer to collect the console at midnight and play immediately.

‘Limited stock available’ at Nintendo Switch 2 midnight launch

Smyths has also confirmed that it will have a “limited stock of Nintendo Switch 2 available for purchase”.

However, it is not known how many will be available to purchase on the day. The retailer on its website also said that photo ID is required to collect pre-orders.

There is also a launch event at selected stores in Belfast, Glasgow, Hull, Romford, and Stockport, from 11pm on June 4th.

A statement on the retailer’s website said: “Take part in an exciting Mario Kart World gameplay demo. Plus the first 100 attendees will receive a FREE goodie bag packed with awesome Nintendo merch — while stocks last!

“No registration needed — play and celebrate the next level of Nintendo gaming with us!”

Currys has also announced it will hold a launch event for the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. However, it is limited to the Currys in Oxford Street, London, and is only for those who have pre-ordered a Switch with them.

However, there is speculation that other Currys stores could follow suit.

On the Nintendo Switch 2 subreddit, it has been claimed that a midnight launch is also being planned in Edinburgh. However, Currys are yet to confirm whether this will happen.

Game provides update on Nintendo Switch 2 preorders

UK high street retailer Game last week apologised for cancelling Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders.

Frustrated customers vented their anger at their Switch orders being cancelled just a week before the launch.

However, affected customers were emailed on Friday and were told they can again pre-order the console.

A picture which has gone viral on Reddit showed that users had a unique discount code to place a pre-order on the retailer’s website.

However, the code was only valid until 11:59pm on Saturday evening.

The retailer did not make it clear as to why some pre-orders were cancelled ahead of the June 5th launch.

A social media post from Game last week stated: “We sincerely apologise for the recent cancellation of some Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders. We understand how disappointing this is, especially for those who have been eagerly awaiting their order.

“We’re currently working hard to reinstate as many affected pre-orders as possible. If your order was impacted, please know that we are doing everything we can and will be in touch with further updates and next steps.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to resolve this. We truly appreciate your support.”
