GenG finished the regular season of the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) Rounds 1-2 with a flawless series record of 18-0, claiming the coveted title of ‘the perfect split’.
This makes them the second team ever to do so in the modern format of the LCK after T1’s run in 2022 Spring.
Known for being one of the most competitive leagues in the world, and the league with T1, GenG have certified their status as the team to beat going into the Mid Seasional Invitational (MSI).
GenG defeat OK Brion in LCK Rounds 1-2
Earlier today, GenG stared down OKSavingsBank Brion (BRO), who were their final obstacle between them and the perfect split.
BRO might be one of the bottom three teams in the league, however, they shouldn’t be underestimated.
The Bros have caused some upsets during the season, having beaten the odds to take down teams like T1 and Dplus KIA.
Much to the LCK host Daniel ‘dGon’ Gonzales’ pleasure.
It’s no secret that the host of the English broadcast of the LCK has been one of BRO’s biggest fans since the season began.
His fellow broadcast talent jumped on this very quickly to tease the host at every opportunity.
Unfortunately for dGon and BRO, it wasn’t meant to be as GenG took the series 2-0 with midlaner Jeong ‘Chovy’ Ji-hoon, once again gaining another Player of the Match title.
GenG secure the perfect split in the LCK
The team have dominated the regular season in the LCK thanks to their ability to control the map and teamfight prowess.
To truly cement their status as the best team in the league, GenG went undefeated for over a month in a 21-game win streak.
Meaning they secured 2-0 clean sweeps against teams like T1, Dplus KIA, and DRX along the way.
They end Rounds 1-2 of the LCK undefeated and head into LCK 2025 Road to MSI as the number one seed.
GenG now enter the history books as the second team ever to complete the perfect split.
Although it would actually make them the third team to do so when looking at older seasons, such as Champions
Winter 2013-2014.
The tournament, run by OnGameNet, saw teams play in a single round robin within their group of three other teams.
Back then, it was none other than T1, known at the time as SKT T1 K, who completed the perfect split with their 2013 World Championship winning roster.
Road to MSI
All the roads are leading to MSI, as teams attempt to qualify for the second major international event of the year.
This year, the LCK has a new format, which allows teams to compete for two places at this year’s MSI and Esports World Cup.
Dubbed ‘Road to MSI’, the top two teams of Rounds 1-2, both GenG and Hanwha Life Esports will only need to win one series to qualify.
Meanwhile, the other top six teams will fight it out in the ‘King of the Hill’ style lower bracket.
The end of Rounds 1-2 has come down to the wire, as the result of Dplus KIA’s match against fourth-place Nongshim RedForce could prove decisive for themselves and KT Rolster.
The match will decide fifth and sixth place between the two, determining their later season and campaign for this year’s World Championship.
Ddplus KIA will face a formidable Nongshim RedForce on Sunday, June 1st, at 9am BST.
