Paper Rex defeated G2 Esports 2-1 in a tense VALORANT Champions Shanghai series on Tuesday 29 September, recovering from a Split loss to win Haven and Lotus and guarantee a place in the playoffs.
The result settled a high-stakes match between two teams chasing progression at the season-ending tournament. Paper Rex had to respond after G2 took the opening map, then hold off a sustained fightback on Haven before closing out the decider. ABS-CBN News reported the result and map scores.
The series also delivered a standout performance from Wang ‘Jinggg’ Jie. The Paper Rex player finished top of the scoreboard with 61 kills, 48 deaths and 12 assists, using Raze and Phoenix across the three maps.
G2 struck first before PRX rallied
G2 claimed Split 13-9 to put Paper Rex under pressure early. PRX answered on Haven, building an 8-4 lead by halftime, but G2 then won seven rounds in a row to threaten a turnaround. Paper Rex stopped the run and edged the map 13-11 to level the series.
Lotus brought the teams into the second half tied 6-6. Paper Rex won the map 13-9, completing the reverse and turning a series that had started in G2’s favour into a playoff-clinching win. The map-by-map scorelines left little room for error: G2 needed to convert its Split advantage, while PRX delivered when the series reached its final map.

A playoff place secured in Shanghai
Paper Rex now move on to the Champions playoffs after navigating a contest that demanded both a comeback and a composed finish. Jinggg’s 61 kills provided the headline individual figure, but the team’s response after losing Split was the defining part of the series.
The win adds another high-pressure moment to Paper Rex’s international story. Their Shanghai campaign was among the storylines covered in Esports News UK’s Champions Shanghai preview, which looked ahead to the teams and players to watch at the event.
