TCA outline bold ambitions as Sean17 leaves UK eSports scene

Promising UK League of Legends mid-laner Sean “Sean17” Duffy has left Terra Cotta Army (TCA) and stepped back from competitive eSports to focus on studying.

In doing so, he has become the latest in a line of pros who have left UK eSports teams – or switched to another organisation – in recent weeks.
Others include top-laner Flaxxish and Keeno Combo, who both left FM (as it made other roster changes ahead of the ESL UK LoL finals), Dxalchemist, who moved from Choke to Exertus, and other players looking for teams at i56 such as xL Billy, formerly of exceL eSports (who withdrew from the ESL UK Premiership).

“I’m taking a break with competitive and just going to focus on improving my own skill/play other games,” Sean17 said.
He told eSports News UK he has a lot of assignments coming up at university and no time to practice with his team, while some exam dates clash with iseries dates (the next event – i56 -takes place December 11th to 13th).
This goes back to the old problem of the UK eSports scene – talented young players having to decide between education or attempting to go full-time as a pro gamer.
“UK teams are struggling at the moment because they’re all at university and they don’t earn enough money, so that’s a real problem,” Team Dignitas owner Michael O’Dell previously said.
Sean17 added: ” I’m pretty sure I’m leaving TCA permanently since there isn’t much to do in the UK scene other than iseries, and they aren’t exactly happy with me saying I couldn’t attend iseries two weeks before the event.”
All we can say is: “Sean17lol, you’re idiot”. ^^
In all seriousness, we caught up with TCA’s CEO Wingo “Luna” Chan about the future of TCA, after it had a disappointing season in the 2015 ESL UK League of Legends Premiership.
Luna said: “Our goal for 2016 with our UK League of Legends line-up is to become the number one team of UK. There’s still a lot of work to do!
“We transformed TCA to a more serious organisation in 2014, and have had players walk through our doors who went onto Challenger Series and LCS teams in multiple different regions. In 2015 we responded to Riot’s partnering approach of the UK ESL Premiership – and we are here today. TCA is supported by a lot of friendly people who have made it where it is today.
“This season with the UK ESL Premiership has been a relatively rough ride, with the first half the season playing with an unfinished roster, which sadly was against the three of four teams confirmed for the offline finals.
“We’re very confident finishing out the season and look forward to contend strong for next season. With the line up relatively new, the only tournament we had the opportunity to be part of outside of the ESL UK Premiership was the League UK Open tournament in which we came first.”
TCA consists of head coach Tobias ‘Mowarth’ Sjunnesson, assistant coach Daniel Lysgaard ‘Lonardi’ Cramon, top-laner Johan ‘Numen’ Bastinck, jungler Neyas ‘Raizins’ Guruswamy, ADC/team captain Jake ‘Jakamaka’ Sampson-Roberts and support Bart ‘Bartiono’ Wessels.
